Middle School Math Teacher
SS. CYRIL & PHILOMENA SCHOOL | An Independence Mission School
Middle School Math Teacher
2026–2027 School Year · Philadelphia, PA · Full-Time
Salary Range: $46,812 – $59,118 + 403(b) match, low-cost healthcare, paid leave
A Letter to the Teacher We’re Looking For
You didn’t get into teaching for the salary. You got into it because you believe — genuinely, stubbornly believe, that every child can do hard things. You believe that a kid who “is bad at math” hasn’t met the right teacher yet. You believe that the neighborhoods we serve deserve teachers who show up with rigor, with warmth, and with relentless faith in young people.
If that describes you, SS. Cyril & Philomena School is looking for you.
We are a tight-knit, high-expectation K-8 school in Lansdowne, PA. Our students are capable of far more than the world often tells them and our teachers prove it every day. We are part of Independence Mission Schools (IMS), a network of 14 Catholic schools serving students of all faiths across the city. We blend the best of Catholic tradition with innovative, standards-aligned instruction designed to meet every learner where they are.
Who We Are
At “SSC&P” — as our community calls it — you will be with your students a lot. That’s by design. We take teaching seriously as a craft, and we believe it is built in the hours spent together: coaching a student through a problem they thought was impossible, building routines that make the classroom feel safe and purposeful, learning every kid’s story.
We are a school that values:
- Transparency between teachers, school leadership, students, and families
- Teamwork: collaboration is how we solve problems and grow
- High expectations for students and adults alike
- Catholic values in how we treat each other: with dignity, honesty, and care
- Teacher growth through frequent coaching, professional development, and mentorship
The Role
As our Middle School Math Teacher, you will teach rigorous, standards-aligned math to grades 6–8. You will use student data to drive every instructional decision, differentiate for diverse learners, and create a classroom culture where students believe in their own ability to grow. You’ll be part of a close-knit teaching team that plans together, gives each other hard feedback, and celebrates wins.
You will:
- Deliver rigorous, engaging, standards-aligned math instruction daily
- Use student growth data to adjust pacing, grouping, and approach
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learners where they are
- Build genuine, lasting relationships with students and their families
- Participate actively in grade-level team meetings and whole-staff professional development
- Receive and apply coaching feedback as a core part of your professional growth
- Model outstanding character aligned with Catholic values in every interaction
- Contribute to extracurricular and school community activities
Who You Are
The teachers who thrive here share a few things in common. They talk about their students at the dinner table not to vent, but because they are genuinely invested in who each child is becoming. They see feedback as fuel, not criticism. And when something doesn’t work, they reflect honestly, adjust, and try again.
You bring:
- An unshakeable belief that every child every single one can achieve at high levels
- A growth mindset: you actively seek feedback and apply it
- Strong collaboration skills and a genuine team orientation
- A reflective practice you know what worked, what didn’t, and why
- Experience working with children in urban settings (preferred, not required)
- A track record of or demonstrated readiness to use data to drive instruction
- A Bachelor’s Degree (required)
- Required clearances for all background checks
What We Offer
- Salary: $46,812 – $59,118 annually
- 403(b) retirement contributions with employer match of 200% up to 2.5% percent of salary
- Low-cost healthcare benefits
- Paid sick time and personal time
- Ongoing coaching, mentorship, and professional development
- A mission-driven community that will push you to become the best version of yourself as an educator
