Lifeguard Manager

Position Title: Summer Lifeguard Manager

Overview:

The Summer Lifeguard Manager oversees pool staff, including Water Safety Instructors (WSIs) and lifeguards, at the Lower Macungie Township Pool. This role involves monitoring facilities and activities, communicating and enforcing rules in a professional manner, and ensuring the safety of both staff and patrons. The manager will work under the supervision of the Emmaus Aquatic Club Facility Director and the Lower Macungie Township Parks & Recreation Coordinator. All positions are seasonal, and once assigned a schedule, it is the employee's responsibility to fulfill that commitment or find a replacement.

Position Responsibilities:

- Supervise lifeguard staff, including managing shift rotations, breaks, and cleaning duties.

- Perform rescues and provide emergency care as needed.

- Understand and enforce pool rules and regulations.

- Test water chemical composition as required.

- Conduct daily safety checks and perform opening and closing checklists.

- Address public inquiries and direct concerns appropriately.

- Maintain a proactive safety approach by enforcing rules and monitoring for distressed swimmers.

- Complete reports related to patron care and facility statistics, and report safety or disciplinary issues to supervisors.

- Operate and maintain safety equipment and supplies.

- Attend training sessions, maintain certifications, and uphold physical fitness.

- Perform general maintenance and janitorial duties to ensure a safe and clean environment.

- Maintain a professional appearance while on duty.

- Support EMAC customer service standards.

- Enforce all EMAC aquatic policies and procedures.

- Construct and maintain the lifeguard schedule.

- Perform additional related duties as required.

Time Commitment:

- Pre-Season: As needed on weekends for scheduling and facility setup.

- In-Season (Memorial Day - Labor Day): Four days on, three days off; three days on, four days off. Shifts from 11:30 AM to 6:30 PM.

- Pay: $24.00 per hour.

Qualifications:

- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (certification assistance available if expired).

- Excellent customer service skills.

- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergencies.

- Strong cross-cultural communication skills for working with a diverse population.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills.

- Commitment to the entire season.

- Physical capability to meet Lifeguard Certification requirements.

- Ability to frequently walk, run, stand, or stoop.

- Capacity to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

- Good speech, hearing, literacy, and vision.
