Steel Plant Mechanical Maintenance Technician
Step into a day on our maintenance team
Before the furnaces glow and the mill turns, you arrive. You check your gear, review the work orders, and head to the floor. One hour you’re diagnosing a hydraulic issue on a conveyor; the next, you’re assisting with operations and safely rigging a lift with an overhead crane. You’re part of the core mechanical maintenance force that keeps one of the world’s largest steel producers running around the clock.
What you’ll do
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems and equipment across the plant, including hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, and power transmission systems.
- Maintain and service conveyors, cranes, and mobile equipment; operate pendant and overhead cranes and forklifts as required.
- Support operating functions when needed to maintain continuous operations.
- Work independently with minimal supervision or collaborate with other maintenance technicians.
- Safely perform tasks at heights and/or in confined spaces.
- Navigate changing environments—hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy—across multiple areas of the facility.
What you bring
- At least 1 year of manufacturing and/or industrial experience (including relevant military experience) or equivalent education in areas such as hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, power transmission, welding, pipefitting, structural repair, or diesel mechanics.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Willingness to work 8-hour rotating shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, with overtime as needed.
- Uncompromising commitment to safety—consistently follow procedures and wear PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and boots with metatarsal protection.
- Punctuality, reliable attendance, and self-direction.
- Ability to pass required assessment test(s).
