Research Associate Chemistry
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a background in organic or analytical chemistry for a full-time Research Assistant or Associate position in our natural products group aimed at the mass-spectrometry guided isolation of bioactive compounds from microbial sources. The successful candidate must have a B.S. or M.S. in organic or analytical chemistry, and prior work experience with mass spectrometry data collection or HPLC purification will be a plus. In this position, you will be expected to advance efforts in the extraction and isolation of natural products from multiple fungal and bacterial sources. Good laboratory skills and familiarity with modern instrumentation (LC-MS, HPLC, NMR, flash chromatography) are desired. Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the work, strong communication skills are necessary. Responsibilities - Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect tandem mass spectrometry data on a large number of microbial sources
- Purify small molecules, peptides, polyketides and oligosaccharides from microbial fermentations
- Interpret experimental data, from a variety of analytical techniques, with a high degree of reliability and accuracy
- Manage schedule to advance multiple purification projects concurrently
- Present and share results within the group and project team
Qualifications - Key skills
- Familiarity with compound purification by flash chromatography and prep/semiprep HPLC
- Familiarity with mass spectrometry data collection
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Effective time management skills
High levels of safety awareness, personal integrity and ethics
Education and Experience: B.S. or M.S. in organic chemistry or analytical chemistry. Prior work experience in mass spectrometry data collection, flash chromatography and HPLC purification will be a plus.
Pay: $48,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
