The paralegal assists with legal work by conducting legal and compliance research, drafting legal and compliance documents, developing systems and processes, maintaining records and files, and providing legal operations and administrative support. The role requires a solid understanding of legal operations, terminology, procedures, and principles. Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and gather relevant information for projects within the Legal and Compliance team.
- Draft legal and compliance documents, such as internal communications, memos, policies, training, contracts and correspondence.
- Organize and maintain legal and compliance files, ensuring they are up-to-date and easily accessible.
- Communicate with clients, and other parties involved in legal matters.
- Support legal operations by improving processes, organizing legal data, and managing documentation workflows.
- Assist legal and compliance department during meetings by taking notes and providing logistical support.
- Review and analyze legal and compliance documents and contracts.
- Assist with legal department operations and administrative tasks, such as systems and process implementation, record retention, project management, reporting, budgeting, billing, scheduling, and managing correspondence.
- Respond to internal and external legal inquiries.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure legal compliance and operational efficiency.
- Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations relevant to the practice area.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the legal and compliance team.
- Maintain flexibility and assist with other corporate strategic initiatives as assigned.
- Bachelor or Associate’s degree in legal studies, paralegal studies, or a related field (Paralegal certification preferred)..
- Strong understanding of legal technology, terminology, procedures, and principles.
- Excellent project management, research, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and software, with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Teams, PowerPoint and Excel).
- Attention to detail and deadlines, and ability to work independently.
- Proactive mindset with a passion for process improvement and problem-solving.
- 2+ years prior experience working in a law firm or legal department preferred.
- Knowledge of specific practice areas, such as consumer finance, litigation, corporate law, or real estate, may be required depending on the position.
- Ambitious and confident in setting goals, finding solutions, taking initiative, and overcoming obstacles to achieve success.
