Litigation Associate

A well established and growing firm is seeking a Litigation Associate with 3–6 years of experience to join its environmental and complex litigation practice. This position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated, high-impact matters while maintaining a balanced and sustainable annual billable expectation of 1,750 hours — significantly lower than many larger firms.

The associate will handle complex litigation matters involving emerging contaminants and environmental enforcement, with meaningful responsibility and direct client exposure. Prior environmental law experience is not required. Strong litigators with an interest in developing expertise in environmental matters are encouraged to apply.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and offers a clear, attainable, and performance-driven partnership track.

Practice Focus

The associate will work on matters involving:

• PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) litigation
• CERCLA (Superfund) cost recovery and contribution actions
• Toxic tort litigation
• Environmental regulatory enforcement and compliance matters
• Complex commercial litigation with environmental components

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and support all phases of litigation, including pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motion practice, and trial preparation
• Draft motions, briefs, memoranda, and other court filings
• Participate in hearings, mediations, and court appearances
• Collaborate with partners to develop case strategy and advise clients
• Work with expert witnesses, consultants, and technical professionals
• Conduct regulatory analysis and assist in enforcement defense matters

The associate will receive significant responsibility and hands-on experience in complex, high-stakes litigation.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of litigation experience (law firm experience preferred)
• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
• Experience drafting and arguing motions
• Ability to manage multiple matters independently
• Demonstrated interest in environmental and regulatory litigation (direct environmental experience not required)
• Admission to practice in Pennsylvania or New Jersey
