Avionics Technician
The Avionics Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, testing, repairing, replacing, and maintaining aircraft avionics, electrical, instrument, and wiring systems. This position performs all work and ensures required maintenance documentation is completed in accordance with applicable FAA regulations, manufacturer requirements and maintenance manuals, Sterling’s Repair Station Manual, company policies and procedures, and established safety practices to support company operational goals and objectives.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot, test, remove, repair, replace, and install aircraft avionics, electrical, instrument, and wiring systems.
- Diagnose aircraft discrepancies and perform repairs efficiently using applicable technical data.
- Analyze test and performance data to evaluate equipment and system operation.
- Test electrical and avionics systems to verify proper operation.
- Identify and request parts and materials necessary to complete assigned work.
- Accurately document work performed on work orders and other required maintenance records.
- Perform in-flight evaluation, troubleshooting, and adjustment of avionics and instrument systems when required.
- Maintain avionics test equipment, tools, and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Fabricate and install avionics and electrical systems, including wiring harnesses and coaxial cable.
- Set up and lay out wire boards and complete wiring harness fabrication and installation.
- Assist with complex avionics and electrical system installations and modifications.
- Disassemble and reassemble aircraft interiors as necessary to facilitate avionics installations and repairs.
- Perform or assist with electrical harness continuity checks, power checks, ground operational tests, and inspections.
- Perform off-site maintenance, emergency repairs, or inspections as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Must possess a basic set of tools appropriate for aircraft maintenance.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must successfully complete required pre-employment screenings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of avionics technician experience in civilian aviation.
- Civilian helicopter experience, particularly with Airbus, Bell, Leonardo, and Sikorsky helicopters.
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) or ASTM NCATT Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) certification.
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Work is primarily performed in an aircraft maintenance and hangar environment and may involve exposure to loud noise and varying temperatures.
- Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to read small print and distinguish colors.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, and perform repetitive movements as required.
