Special Education Teacher - Substitute

JOB TITLE: TEACHER

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Pennsylvania Certification in Special Education and experience working with developmentally disabled children required. All teachers must obtain appropriate clearances. Must be at least 18 years of age.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Planning and developing curricula and lesson plans which provide for comprehensive experiences designed to foster total growth and development of each child.

Organizing and directing all related services for enrolled students in the classroom.

Supervising other classroom personnel such as the assistant group supervisor, teacher's aides and foster grandparents in program implementation.

Planning, developing, implementing and evaluating lEP’s (Individual Education Program), under the direct guidance/supervision of Educational Coordinator.

Developing appropriate instructional materials and techniques to meet the needs of all students in the classroom.

Analyzing and interpreting data used to monitor the behavioral progress of students.

Implementing departmental programs, policies, and procedures as related to the classroom.

Establishing classroom policies and procedures not circumscribed by existing policies and procedures.

Interpreting lEP's to parents and representatives of various public and private agencies.

Acting as a representative of Learning Center program.

Attending all staffing, staff meetings, training sessions and inservice programs.

To attend 24 hours of inservice per year (July through June) including programmatic mandatory inservices, i.e.. Basic Medical, Fire and Safety, Crisis Management, Lifting, Incident and Accident Reporting and any others required by supervisor.

Establishing working relationships with other multi-disciplinary team members in the Learning Center.

Implement and monitor effectiveness or therapeutic support programs within the classroom

Maintaining current knowledge of the best practices in special education.

Daily/weekly collection of data on student progress toward achievement of IEP objectives.

Assisting natatorium staff in getting students into and out of pool.

Preparing a budget of instructional materials.

Serving as resource person to all Learning Center classrooms.

Providing home-bound instruction when a student is recuperating from an illness, surgery or chronically absent from school.

Documenting and developing necessary programmatic standards to assure the students human/legal rights are upheld.

Assisting the Deputy Administrator/Education Coordinator in any assignment determined necessary for the welfare of the student.

Will consult daily with support teacher regarding programmatic issues.

Will work under the direct supervision of the Educational Coordinator who will review and authorize all lEP's and other paperwork requiring supervisor input.

Be aware that duties may be added or deleted from the position as deemed necessary by Director.

Demonstrate knowledge regarding fire and emergency evacuation procedures and equipment.

Understand that added work or irregular hours may be required due to government agencies or funding source requests for special assignments.

Understand that other duties and assignments may be added or deleted as necessary due to funding requirements or regulations.

Physical Capability Requirements:

Light to medium physical demands is generally required in performing duties in a school environment. To maintain safety, positioning and hygiene, the employee is required to respond to student needs, physical and behavioral challenges. This position requires working alone, restraining a child (depending on specific position), simple grasping, fine motor and manipulation skills. Responsible for driving and transporting individuals, operating foot controls of adaptive equipment and performing repetitive motions. The following sensory abilities are required: speaking, hearing, seeing, visual acuity, depth perception, tactile sensation and smell (for safety concerns).
