Part-time Nonprofit Bookkeeper / Accountant (cpa Preferred | Federal & State Grant Experience)
Title: Part-Time Nonprofit Bookkeeper / Accountant (CPA Preferred | Federal & State Grant Experience)
Org: Human Rights Coalition (HRC) — Pennsylvania nonprofit
Location: Remote/hybrid (Philadelphia preferred)
Time: 6–12 hrs/month ongoing + additional hours for year-end and 2024–2025 cleanup
Pay: $1,000/month retainer (up to 10 hrs/month) + pre-approved additional hours (rate negotiated)
Start Date: Immediately
Responsibilities
Monthly bookkeeping & close: reconcile bank/CC, code transactions (grant vs non-grant), maintain documentation, produce monthly financials (P&L, balance sheet, basic grant summary)
Grant accounting support (as needed): budget vs actual/burn-rate snapshots, reconciled totals + documentation packets tied to GL; flag documentation/allowability gaps
Payroll support via Gusto : review payroll runs, ensure payroll entries recorded properly, support payroll documentation, code payroll to grant/non-grant as applicable
2024 & 2025 fiscal year review/cleanup : identify/correct discrepancies; deliver adjustment log + open items list
Year-end readiness: schedules for tax prep and audit support as requested
(External audit must be performed by an independent audit firm if required.)
Requirements
3+ years bookkeeping/accounting (nonprofit preferred)
Grant-funded experience (federal/state)
QBO (or similar) + Excel/Google Sheets
Strong reconciliations, dependable deadlines
Payroll support experience (Gusto preferred)
