Part-Time Custodian (Morning Shift)

Job Summary
The Westmoreland Museum of American Art is seeking a dedicated and energetic Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across the Museum. In this vital role, you will be responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and custodial tasks to ensure that our spaces are hygienic, organized, and well-maintained. Your proactive approach and attention to detail will contribute to a positive experience for all. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where your efforts directly impact the overall cleanliness and safety of our museum.

10–15 Hours Per Week

Thursday–Saturday | TH & FRI 6AM – 10AM; SAT 7 AM to 10 AM

(some Sundays which may become consistent at a later date)

This is a great opportunity for early risers and someone looking for consistent part-time work.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and trash removal across all areas of the Museum
• Maintain floors to ensure a polished appearance
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, kitchens, and common areas to uphold health standards, including operation of dishwasher
• Patrol interior and exterior of building for cleanliness and identification of issues
• Assist with facilities maintenance light tasks
• Monitor supplies and maintain inventory list
• Operate janitorial equipment safely and efficiently while adhering to safety protocols
• Support with community event set up as needed

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED
• Proven janitorial or custodial experience in commercial or residential settings
• Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques
• Some experience with industrial cleaning processes and facilities maintenance is preferred
• Ability to operate cleaning machinery and tools safely and effectively
• Excellent attention to detail with a proactive attitude toward cleanliness standards
• Physical stamina to perform manual tasks such as lifting up to 40 pounds, bending, standing for extended periods, and climbing ladders if required
• Basic understanding of safety procedures related to cleaning chemicals and equipment
• Reliable, punctual and ability to work independently and hold a valid driver’s license.
