Adult Basic Education Part Time Early Childhood Educator
Job Title: Part-Time Early Childhood Educator
Position Summary:
The Early Childhood Educator is accountable for planning, coordinating and managing activities to provide a conducive environment for a child’s total development and healthy well-being of the children and their families with the support of the educational advisor and program supervisor. An emphasis is to serve families with children aged birth to five years that are enrolled in the adult education program and not currently receiving other services.
- Coordinate the educational, social, emotional, and physical development of the children in the program appropriate to the developmental level of the child by providing a variety of age appropriate literacy and learning activities .
- Help children develop a sense of independence, self-respect, respect to others, and overall general well-being through engaging activities.
- Administer and train in appropriate assessment tools of childhood development and documenting accurate observation notes; including participating in orientations when needed.
- Provide frequent positive communication about the child’s progress and development to the parent.
- Coordinate with the Adult Education instructors and education advisors to incorporate common family goals and track progress, attendance, lessons, etc.
- Facilitate, participate and coordinate weekly parent support and parent/child interaction groups, including evening and online activities when scheduled.
- Maintain accurate participant records and case documentation (sharefile) and databases regarding goals, barriers, attendance, other related student information or other clerical data as assigned to follow AIU, state and federal policies and regulations.
- Establish and maintain relationships with partner school districts, social service agencies, and other community systems which impact program participants, and share data when appropriate.
- Participate in state mandated activities, including but not limited to PLC meetings, teacher training, staff development, program improvement, and other AIU or state program initiatives that support program development as directed by the coordinator. This includes completing the new staff induction modules withing the current program year of being hired.
- Work with all AIU staff and students to effectively understand and create a positive, respectful, and safe learning environment that promotes a culture of learning within the framework of our program guidelines including the discussion of program policies, technology usage, orientation, other as needed.
- Provide daily program communication to staff, students, and program partners via calls, texts, and emails which are documented in a timely manner according to program procedures.
- Perform a variety of non-instructional responsibilities as needed and assigned, such as clerical, data collection and entry, curriculum development, case management, recruitment, training, and/or any additional tasks related to the general operation of the Adult Education Program.
- Assist in childcare when needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, family relations, social work, guidance counseling and one (1) year experience working with infants/toddlers and families or the ability to work with parents and children in a home environment. Community services experience preferred.
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Outlook, and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies.
- Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills required.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.
- Ability to work under pressure, be flexible, and work as part of a team.
- Ability to think creatively, plan and organize complex work projects.
- Self-motivated; demonstrated initiative and ability to follow through with completion of tasks.
- Ability to travel.
- Ability to comply with the AIU Conduct policy
Additional Requirements:
Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).
School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
