Registered Nurse (RN) (6p-6a)
Job Summary
To direct the nursing care of the residents and ensure that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner consistent with the facility's standards, policies and procedures and regulatory requirements, to plan, organize, implement and evaluate resident care and nursing services in all nursing neighborhoods. Position will also supervise and mentor nursing employees.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor PPD and adhere to guidelines. State 3.2/3.3 budget
- Facilitate physician orders,
- Can use technology competently
- Assure proper identification of each resident and maintenance of complete, accurate resident records.
- Assists in establishing good public relations and staff relations. Can deal with residents, families, and the public on a personal basis.
- Knows established Policies and Procedures and recommends changes/updates as needed.
- Assure appropriate staffing to meet residents care needs.
- Monitor residents' care and direct staff in the provision of care.
- Keep physicians, family, and staff updated regarding residents’ condition and any changes in condition or untoward events
- Make independent decisions regarding nursing care.
- Can handle emergency situations of all types competently
- Maintain accurate and adequate documentation and records of resident care.
- Demonstrate principles of good management
- Analyze and evaluate nursing services needs
- Participate in assessing and assuring the quality of resident care
- Follow routine duties of supervisor.
- Participates in the College Way dining room for evening meal
- Monitor call bell times and educate staff accordingly for compliance
- Monitors overtime
- Team nursing tasks as assigned
- Promotes team building environment
- Attend meetings as required
- Communicate with residents and/or their family and other members of the health care team in carrying out the goals of the care plan.
- Liaison to on call nursing support
- Responds to all LPN nursing concerns and provides directive to care
- Responds to all falls
- Manages 24-hour report and corresponding follow-up
- Coordinates IV therapy in house
- Finalizes admission from 4 pm cut off time
- Pharmacy Recommendations
- Skilled charting audit for completion and quality
- Dental assessments
- Monthly weight audit and follow through
- Matrix completion coordination and follow through
- Monthly reconciliation
- Monthly dialysis coordination
- Monthly foley catheter audit
- Monthly Med cart audits
- Monthly oxygen audits
- Carah cart and AED audit
- Wanderguard checks each Wednesday
- Ice care cleaning each Saturday night
- Lab stocking and room cleaning
- Fridge temps nightly
- Hydroculator temp each weekend night
- Monthly night light audit coordination
- Monthly code status audit coordination
- Lab/Lab books/Lab Audit
- Utilizes Dr board for care coordination and communicates to Day RN for Dr. rounds
- Coordinates order follow through for 360, Mindcare, outside appointments etc.
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Will be required to help cover supervising of other shifts, weekends and provide holiday coverage
- Participate in rotating call coverage for RN compliance
- All other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Works in a clean, well-heated, well-lit and well-ventilated building. Prolonged standing and walking, repeated bending, squatting, and stooping. Exposure to all resident elements including infection, odors and to peculiarities in behavior and reactions of the elderly. Assists with emergencies and in restraining violent or combative residents.
Job Qualifications Necessary to Perform Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Completion of state approved Registered Nurse Program and must hold a current PA nursing license and must have basic CPR Certification. BSN preferred. Previous experience in hospital or nursing home preferred.
- Sense of responsibility, moral integrity and common sense.
- Sincere desire to work with elderly. Patience and compassion are essential. Pleasant, cheerful, tactful, courteous when handling residents and/or families.
- Ability to cooperate with other personnel. Ability to treat patient information confidentially.
- Must be able to lift, turn and reposition residents both alone and with assistance with and without the use of mechanical devices. Must also be able to assist others with lifting, turning and repositioning residents both with and without the use of mechanical devices. Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position including lifting residents with help.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat of harm to themselves, others or property.
- Must adhere to Wesbury's personnel policies and practices including, but not limited to, the attendance requirements.

As part of this plan, a copy of the Task Evaluation and Classification Form must be made as part of each job description. The next page of this job description is a copy of that form.
