SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a key role in supporting the clinical operations of our Pediatric and Family Medicine providers. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient patient flow, accurate clinical documentation, and high-quality patient care through both direct patient interaction and administrative support.

The MA will perform clinical duties including rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vital signs, conducting medication reconciliation, processing medication refills, and assisting providers with bedside procedures. The MA will also prepare and administer intramuscular (IM) medications and vaccines in accordance with clinical protocols and safety standards.

In addition to clinical tasks, the MA will monitor and respond to patient inquiries via the electronic message pool, manage incoming phone calls, and coordinate communication between patients, providers, and other care team members to ensure timely and effective care delivery.

Pediatric providers typically see an average of 20 patients per day, while Family Medicine providers see an average of 15 patients per day. The MA supports providers in maintaining this schedule by preparing exam rooms, ensuring necessary supplies and documentation are ready, and assisting throughout the patient visit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

• High School diploma or equivalent required.

• Must meet current eligibility to sit for the exam with attainment of certification or registration through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistants within 90-days of employment date or current active status as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistant certification required.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must obtain BLS Certification within 6 months of employment date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program

• Previous outpatient experience preferred.
