Primary Purpose

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

This position is a direct report to the Manager / Director, Substation Engineering and is the design authority providing design services to the T&S Engineering disciplines within the Company. Responsible for developing design documents. Lead, manage and provide leadership for the personnel and the activities of the designers/drafters of the T&S Engineering organization within each Company. Ensure compliance and adherence to accepted standard engineering and design practices and drawing standards. Develop, update, issue design drawings for transmission and substation activities. Maintain, create, and update standards and specifications. Develop, update, and issue transmission line route maps and protective relay and communication diagrams. Incorporate vendor drawings into drawing system. Provide technical oversight to contracted engineering and design groups to ensure adherence to drawing standards. Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Primary Duties

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

There are 2 positions available. Based on the candidate's interest and experience this posting will fill a role in one of the following positions listed below.

• Transmission & Substation Equipment Engineering

• Transmission & Substation Projects Engineering

• Provide detailed engineering and design in support of ongoing engineering efforts for internal and external organizations. Provides field technical support in the area of electric substation relay (testing) and/or mechanical systems to develop solutions for corrective and preventive maintenance, equipment replacement and new construction activities. Investigates, analyzes and reports on system operation events and develops corrective measures in coordination with T&S maintenance. (25%)

• Drives and oversees the development and implementation of short and long term strategic and tactical business and labor initiatives designed to assure the highest levels of customer services and to achieve Exelon's safety, reliability and performance goals. (30%)

Job Scope

JOB SCOPE

• Reports to the Manager Substation Engineering and is responsible for a staff of 8-13 direct reports (variation in total directs / mix based on Company requirements)

• Design authority providing design services to the T&S Engineering disciplines within the Company.

• Responsible for developing design documents and design standards.

• Develop, update, and issue design drawings for new business, capacity expansion, reliability, obsolescence, and corrective maintenance activities.

• Maintain, create, and update standards and specifications.

• Develop, update, and issue transmission line routes maps and protective relay and communication diagrams.

• Provide technical oversight to contracted engineering, internal engineers, and design groups to ensure adherence to drawing standards.

• Ensure compliance and adherence to accepted standard engineering and design practices and drawing standards.

• Ensure that all designs meet the design basis for transmission and substation equipment and systems on the system.

• Identify training requirements and ensure they are satisfied.

• Responsible for performance measurements and design audits for all engineered plans.

• Communicate, execute and supervise the process to ensure all work packages are properly prepared and appropriately scoped prior to construction issuance.

• Responsible for the organization's response to emergent activities, catastrophic events and storms.

• Actions impact on safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction goals, the transmission revenue stream, the generation revenue stream of Exelon, and the public, political, and regulatory opinion.

• Operates autonomously with wide latitude for un-reviewed actions and decisions. Establishes performance goals and expectations, coaches, mentors and provides feedback to direct reports.

• Maintains effective internal business controls by conducting audits, self-assessments, investigations and employee reviews.

• Perform detailed engineering and design in support of ongoing projects. Direct Reports: 8-13 Indirect Reports: 0 Total Budget: $2M

T&S Equipment Engineering

• Technical knowledge of electrical substation equipment including but not limited to transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, disconnect switches, and/or instrument transformers.

• Experience assessing, troubleshooting, and recommending solutions for issues with electrical equipment to assist maintenance personnel.

• Experience developing substation equipment specifications and visiting vendor facilities to ensure manufactured equipment meets expectations.

• Experience writing technical procedures and whitepapers.

• Active involvement in industry committees and engagements.

• Extensive experience working on project teams in a technical role.

• Knowledge and familiarity with equipment databases such as Cascade

T&S Projects Engineering

• Experience in Transmission and Substation Design and Engineering and Substation Projects providing technical ownership, project team oversight, and quality assurance for implementation of Transmission and Substation engineering functions on System Performance Projects, PJM RTEP Supplemental, and Large Load

• Technical knowledge of electrical substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, disconnect switches, instrument transformers, batteries, and GIS building enclosures and underground & overhead transmission equipment & structures.

• Technical knowledge of protection and control system applications and communication infrastructure.

• Experience with initiating and evaluating engineering studies such as geotechnical, grounding, drainage, lightning, AC DC loading, fire protection, yard lighting.

• Familiarity with facility ratings databases such as LOAD

• Familiarity with equipment databases such as Cascade

• Proficiency with laying out substation arrangements and allowing for future capacity expansion in both brownfield and greenfield applications.

• Experience with understanding transmission system outage requirements, electrical switching and blocking, and interfacing with generation and customer facilities and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Background/Experience - Bachelor's degree and 8-10 years design experience, OR in lieu of a bachelor's degree, a minimum of 12 years design experience

• Certifications/Licenses - Valid driver's license

• Knowledge - Understanding of transmission and substation components and systems

• Skills - Proven leadership ability in a high-performance culture, including coaching and facilitating business competency and performance management skills.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, build consensus, establish trust, and foster culture change.

• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process enhancements and efficiencies including technology and performance.

• Demonstrated business and utility financial acumen, customer awareness, and ability to create value.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Advanced degree and previous experience as a T&S designer

• Professional Engineer's (PE) License

• Systems knowledge including work management and CAD

• Understanding of utility collective bargaining agreements
