Position Title: Commercial HVAC Technician

Position Summary

We are seeking an HVAC Commercial Technician to join our growing team. This role is designed for a reliable, hands-on technician with experience servicing and installing commercial HVAC systems. The position requires professionalism with commercial customers and on active commercial job sites, strong troubleshooting ability, attention to safety, and the ability to install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems in commercial facilities including office buildings, retail, light industrial, healthcare, and mixed-use environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, service, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems, including rooftop units (RTUs), packaged units, split systems, heat pumps, air handlers (AHUs), VAV boxes, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and related mechanical equipment.
• Install commercial HVAC systems, components, refrigerant lines, control systems, and ductwork in accordance with manufacturer specifications, project requirements, and applicable building codes.
• Troubleshoot refrigeration, electrical, airflow, controls, hydronic, and mechanical issues to restore safe and reliable system performance in occupied commercial facilities.
• Work with building automation systems (BAS/BMS) and commercial control platforms to verify proper sequencing, setpoints, and performance.
• Conduct preventive maintenance including inspections, filter replacements, belt adjustments, coil cleaning, refrigerant checks, and system performance verification to support efficiency, reliability, and tenant comfort.
• Maintain accurate digital records of service activities, repairs, materials used, and refrigerant handling in compliance with EPA standards.
• Adhere to OSHA safety standards and company protocols including proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and safe operation of ladders, lifts, and rooftop fall protection equipment.
• Communicate professionally with commercial customers, property managers, general contractors, facility teams, and office personnel while representing JW Mechanicals on job sites.

Required Qualifications

• Candidates must have at least 2 years of commercial HVAC service and/or installation experience.
• A valid EPA Section 608 Universal Certification is required.
• Strong technical knowledge of refrigeration principles, electrical systems, schematics, commercial controls, hydronic systems, and airflow diagnostics is essential.
• Candidates must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, working at heights including rooftops, climbing ladders, and operating in varied weather and confined spaces.
• A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• NATE certification is preferred.
• Experience with VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) systems, large-tonnage RTUs, packaged units, chillers, and boiler systems is desired.
• Experience with building automation systems (BAS/BMS), BACnet, or similar commercial control platforms is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, pipefitting, sheet metal, or commercial ductwork installation is a plus.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 (construction) is a plus.

• Hourly pay ranges from $31.00 to $41.00 depending on experience, with overtime potential.
