MAINTENANCE WORKER

JOB DESCRIPTION

St. Madeline Parish is looking to hire a reliable Custodian/Maintenance Worker. The Maintenance Person is responsible for the overall cleanliness, safety, and basic upkeep of all parish facilities, including the church, rectory, parish offices, meeting spaces, and grounds. This role supports the daily operations of the parish by ensuring that buildings are well-maintained, secure, and functioning properly. Candidates must have basic skills in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.

WORKING HOURS: Monday through Friday

Additional hours to support parish events

GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

General custodial tasks (interior and exterior) for the parish’s three facilities (Church, Rectory and Spiritual Life Center) including, but not limited to:

• • Cleaning bathrooms in Church/Spiritual Life Center building
  • Sweeping/mopping/scrubbing/vacuuming floors in Church/Spiritual Life Center building
  • Cleaning windows
  • Oversee trash and recycling removal for all buildings
  • Changing of light bulbs
  • Performing minor electrical, plumbing and painting repairs
  • Performing regular preventative maintenance, repair and cleaning of equipment
  • Maintaining and organizing the mechanical room, garage and shed
  • Maintaining inventory of cleaning supplies submitting purchase orders when supplies get low
  • Meet and supervise contractors when needed
  • Maintain HVAC units by monitoring filter, thermostats, and reporting issues to contractors/vendors
  • Responding to and taking appropriate actions in the event of emergency or critical incidents to resolve, confine or prevent potentially injurious or hazardous conditions
  • Ensuring facilities are opened and safely closed on a timely basis
  • Keep walkways, steps, and entrances safe and clear
  • Tracking deferred maintenance items and reporting such items
  • Assist with rectory needs such as minor repairs, seasonal tasks, and upkeep of living spaces.
  • Coordinate with Pastor or Chief of Staff regarding maintenance concerns
  • Responding to requests from Pastor and parish staff, especially to support parish events & rentals (moving of tables and chairs, decorating, etc.)
  • Using own vehicle to shop at and deliver items from home improvement stores
  • Using own vehicle to pick up and deliver donated furniture

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• • GED or high school diploma
  • Previous experience in maintenance
  • Commitment to the Catholic faith and the mission of the parish.
  • Ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds; may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as strong odors, fumes, dust, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, disease, pathogenic substances and toxic/poisonous agents. Protective equipment (gloves, masks, safety glasses, etc.) will be provided.
  • Ability to operate maintenance, grounds and custodial equipment
  • Ability to respond to facility emergencies
  • Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to relate effectively and positively with colleagues, volunteers, parishioners, and vendors.
  • Valid PA driver’s license
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for parish events or emergencies.
  • Must obtain necessary clearances
