Welding Quality Assurance Inspector (CWI)
A Day in the Life
Morning in Pittsburgh’s West End starts with your safety gear on and your inspection kit ready. You’ll walk the floor, review in-process and completed welds, and compare what you see against governing codes and project specifications. Midday, you’ll meet with engineering and production to resolve any nonconformances, close out documentation, and coach welders on best practices. By afternoon, you’re finalizing clear, traceable reports and preparing for upcoming quality audits—always keeping a pulse on evolving standards and procedures.
Impact & Responsibilities
- Verify weld quality through comprehensive visual and measurement-based inspections to confirm alignment with applicable codes and specifications.
- Assess and validate welding procedures and welder qualifications to confirm regulatory and code compliance.
- Create precise inspection records, reports, and supporting documentation for all welding activities.
- Partner with engineering and production to troubleshoot welding issues and drive timely resolution.
- Offer targeted training and guidance to welding teams on quality expectations and proven methods.
- Maintain current knowledge of AWS, ASME, API, and related industry requirements, trends, and updates.
- Support quality assurance audits and help implement corrective and preventive actions as needed.
What You Bring
- Active Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) credential from a recognized organization.
- Hands-on welding inspection experience in manufacturing and/or construction settings.
- Deep understanding of welding processes, base and filler materials, and inspection techniques.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., AWS, ASME, API).
- Exceptional attention to detail paired with solid analytical judgment.
- Clear, confident communication skills—both written and verbal.
- Comfort working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
