Plant Manager

Scope, Supervision, and Interaction
- This Plant Manager role based in Union City, PA (35 to 40 minutes from Erie, Pennsylvania) oversees a CNC machining plant and an assembly plant totalling over 165 employees and a team of direct reports. The Plant Manager provides leadership for plant operations employees, coordinating all manufacturing functions within the plant environment. The plants may be either a unionized facility or a non-bargaining unit facility.
- The manager is responsible for all aspects of managing plant operations, including developing associates, ensuring team consensus is used to thoroughly evaluate decisions, ensuring rapid implementation of decisions, budget planning, employment decisions related to associates, and performance assessment of all direct reports, team leaders, and associates.
Essential Functions
- The Plant Manager is responsible for driving profitable growth of the plant and achieving goals measured weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually.
- The Plant Manager is reponsible for P&L for both plants.
- The manager works with internal and external customers to promote and leverage company technologies, systems, products, services, and processes. Establishing and maintaining premier customer service at all times is essential.
- The Plant Manager ensures the plant has proper inventory, production control, scheduling, shipping, receiving, logistics, and quality procedures in place.
- The manager leads strategy deployment for plant initiatives and growth, directs manufacturing functions to ensure operational efficiency and economy, and collaborates with departments such as Human Resources, Lean, Quality, Engineering, Information Technology, Production Control, and Planning.
- The role is accountable for driving Lean initiatives throughout the plant to ensure they are fully embraced and implemented.
- The manager develops a budget plan and manages the plant within budget constraints.
- A positive, can-do team atmosphere is maintained in the plant by holding regular team meetings, assigning tasks, coordinating support services, and utilizing PDCA in conjunction with Tracking Centers and Team Improvement Boards to ensure results.
- The manager maintains familiarity with the competitive environment, provides leadership by promoting team concepts, coaching, counseling, retaining, mentoring, training, talent management, and individual development.
- The role drives a culture of accountability and results through strategy deployment and effective performance management.
THE CANDIDATE
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline is required. An advanced degree is a plus.
- Candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Must have some plant manager experience or similar experience like a senior operations manager role.
- Must have financial acumen knowledge. P&L knowledge.
- The ideal candidate will be a GEMBA manager who spends a lot of time on the shop floor, process improvement and safety oriented, solid production background and have talent development experience.
- Practical experience in implementing lean technologies and practices is necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities using effective problem-solving and resolution skills, with a team focus, is essential.
- The position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to effectively and persuasively present information to management, customers, and employees.
- Excellent problem-solving skills are required. Six Sigma certification is preferred.
