Early Intervention Special Education Teacher (Itinerant)
Be the Teacher Who Shapes Tomorrow’s Readers
The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit is seeking Itinerant Early Intervention Special Education Teachers
Join a team where teachers are learners, leaders, and literacy changemakers — and where early learning is intentionally designed to help children thrive. This role offers the opportunity to support our youngest learners, where they learn every day while building strong foundations for Kindergarten and beyond.
Service Area: Westmoreland County (itinerant/community-based)
Primary Settings: Preschool programs, childcare centers, and other natural learning environments
Service Model: Collaborative, family-centered early intervention
Our Vision for Early Learning:
At the WIU, we are redefining what early intervention can be.
Our work is grounded in one shared purpose: Empowering young children through evidence-based literacy, meaningful play, and intentional instruction.
As an itinerant teacher, you will bring this vision into community settings, partnering with families and educators to support development in authentic, child-centered ways.
The Educator We’re Looking For
This role is ideal for a teacher who values relationships, reflection, and results. We are seeking individuals who:
· Hold PK–4 certification (or equivalent)
· Believe strong outcomes start with clear, intentional instruction
· Thrive in collaborative, team-based environments
· Are eager to deepen your understanding of how young children learn to read
· Are willing to obtain Special Education certification (or already possess it)
· Want to grow within a literacy-centered, mission-driven organization
Your Role in Action
As an Itinerant Early Intervention Special Education Teacher, you will:
· Deliver individualized and small-group instruction aligned to IEP goals
· Provide services in natural, community-based learning environments
· Embed foundational literacy practices and structured routines into developmentally appropriate instruction
· Collaborate with families, preschool staff, and EI colleagues to ensure continuity and progress
· Partner with related service providers (including SLPs) to implement integrated supports
· Maintain timely documentation and professional communication to support compliance and high-quality service delivery
Why Educators Choose the WIU:
· Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits
· Paid Early Childhood LETRS training
· OCDEL-approved, evidence-based curriculum
· PDE-approved induction and mentoring
· Partial tuition support for graduate coursework
· Supportive leadership focused on growth and sustainability
