Job Summary

T h e Buyer is responsible for procuring materials and monitoring the flow of supplies to support production requirements. This role works closely with engineering, production, suppliers, and internal teams to maintain appropriate inventory levels, ensure material availability, resolve supply issues, and support cost-effective purchasing decisions. The Buyer will analyze demand, manage supplier relationships, monitor quality and delivery performance, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Job Description

  • Procure materials and manage supplier activities to meet production schedules and inventory requirements.
  • Review engineering and production schedules to maintain planned inventory levels.
  • Analyze bills of materials (BOMs) for cost accuracy, lead times, and material requirements.
  • Support sourcing initiatives, including supplier qualification, RFQs, contract negotiations, and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings through supplier negotiations, process improvements, engineering changes, and spending analysis.
  • Manage supplier Kanban programs, including setup, maintenance, and daily monitoring.
  • Review and manage purchasing reports, including new buys, late orders, and Kanban requirements.
  • Create, modify, and maintain supplier agreements and inventory programs.
  • Monitor supplier performance, quality metrics, delivery schedules, and corrective action plans.
  • Partner with suppliers, inspectors, and engineering teams to resolve quality issues and implement solutions.
  • Support engineering change orders (ECOs) by reviewing cost impacts, notifying suppliers, and updating purchase orders.
  • Create and maintain part information within internal systems.
  • Process purchase requisitions and indirect purchasing needs.
  • Assist with supplier scorecards, performance audits, site visits, and improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities, including Kaizen events and procurement process improvements.
  • Assist with inventory audits, receiving issues, inspection discrepancies, and accounts payable reconciliation.
  • Support department safety audits and reporting.
  • Review spending reports and recommend cost-saving opportunities.
  • Reconcile purchasing card transactions and monthly reports.
  • Shift: Monday-Friday 8-5 or 7-4
  • Primarily office-based work environment.

 

Skills Required

  • 1–3 years of procurement, purchasing, or supply chain experience.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (SAP experience preferred).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate costs, lead times, and supplier performance.
  • Ability to interpret bills of materials and production requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with supplier management, negotiations, and problem resolution.
  • Knowledge of purchasing processes, inventory management, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Supply chain coursework or certifications are preferred.
  • Must be able to work on or visit the production floor as needed.
  • Safety shoes (composite or steel-toe) are required when entering production areas.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, internal teams, and leadership.
  • Ability to use computers, phones, and standard office equipment regularly.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Procurement, or a related field preferred.

 

Pay Rate

  • $22 - $29 per hour (Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors)
