SUMMARY:

The Machine Mechanic repairs and maintains machines used in production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Visually inspects and listens to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunction.
• Dismantles machines and equipment to gain access to problem areas.
• Inspects and measures parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems.
• Removes and replaces worn or defective parts.
• Realigns and adjusts components such as timing gears, hooks, and all components requiring timing.
• Replaces or repairs fittings and lines.
• Starts machine and checks for proper operation.
• Operates tools such as lathe, milling machine, cutting tools, hand tools, and grinders.
• Modified operation of machines to do a different operation (as per supervisor instructions).
• Assists Plant Engineer and Plant Manager when needed.
• Reports problem areas not directly associated to the job.
• Initiates purchase order requisition for parts and machines.
• Assist with general building maintenance such as, replacing lights, ballasts, plumbing issues, regular building maintenance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• 3-5 years related work experience preferred but not required
• Associates degree or equivalent from two year college or technical school preferred but not required
• Knowledge of Basic Electricity 110 and 220 volt
• Knowledge of compressed air and pneumatics

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Basic skills required which include verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals and ability to measure and determine proper location of accessories to the bags.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

REASONING ABILITY

• Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written and oral form.
