Banquet Captain

The following Core Responsibilities represent the primary duties and key priorities of this position. They are grouped into two categories: Job Functions and Professionalism and Style Expectations. A Physical Requirements section follows, outlining expectations applicable to all positions. Each responsibility is assigned a weight indicating the percentage of the job it represents. For performance evaluations, the Core Responsibilities account for 90% of the overall score, while the Professionalism and Style Expectations make up the remaining 10%. Availability including nights, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts based on event schedules is required. Job Function Banquet Operations and Event Execution Oversee and coordinate banquet events to ensure seamless execution and exceptional guest service. Supervise banquet staff during events, providing direction, support, and leadership. Set up banquet rooms according to event orders, including tables, chairs, linens, place settings, and décor. Ensure all food and beverage service is delivered in accordance with established standards and timelines. Act as the primary point of contact for clients and guests during events, addressing requests and resolving issues promptly. Communicate event details and expectations clearly to banquet staff prior to and during events. Coordinate with kitchen, bar, and other departments to ensure smooth service flow. Monitor service quality, presentation, and guest satisfaction throughout the event. Ensure proper handling, storage, and service of food and beverages in compliance with safety and sanitation standards. Assist with opening and closing duties, including setup, breakdown, and securing event spaces. Maintain cleanliness and organization of banquet areas, equipment, and storage spaces. Ensure proper use and care of equipment and supplies to minimize damage and control costs. Complete event reports and communicate any issues or feedback to management. Respond promptly to supervisor, client, and guest requests. Follow all hotel or venue policies and procedures. Attend all required meetings and trainings. Assist with additional food and beverage or operational duties as assigned. Professionalism and Style Expectations Personal Effectiveness Demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills. Complete tasks accurately, efficiently, and with attention to detail. Adapt to varying event sizes, styles, and timelines in a fast-paced environment. Take responsibility for maintaining high service and presentation standards. Present a professional appearance and maintain hygiene standards. Work collaboratively with banquet staff, kitchen teams, and other departments. Communication Communicate clearly and professionally with team members, management, and clients. Provide clear instructions and direction to banquet staff. Follow instructions and ask for clarification when necessary. Share relevant information regarding event execution and guest needs. Treat co-workers, supervisors, and guests with respect at all times. Physical Requirements These are required of every associate: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to push, pull, bend, stoop, and reach overhead. Ability to move and set up tables, chairs, and banquet equipment. Ability to perform repetitive motions and tasks requiring manual dexterity. Ability to hear, write, and communicate effectively. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Additional Responsibilities Specific to This Position Must possess working knowledge of banquet service procedures and event setup standards. Must have a basic understanding of food and beverage service, including safety and sanitation regulations. Strong leadership and team management skills are required. Ability to read and interpret banquet event orders (BEOs). High school education or equivalent experience is required. Prior banquet or supervisory experience is preferred. Ability to obtain any required food safety and alcohol service certifications in a timely manner. CPR certification is preferred; first aid training is a plus. Additional language proficiency is preferred.
