Senior Electrical Designer

Since 1989, ACS has provided control systems integration, design engineering and technical services for PLC, DCS and SCADA systems for industrial and environmental applications. *Senior Electrical Designer - Water & Wastewater Industry*

We're seeking a highly experienced and motivated *Senior Electrical Designer* to join our engineering team, specializing in projects for the *water and wastewater treatment industry*. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical design for municipal and industrial facilities, a deep understanding of relevant codes and standards, and the ability to lead the electrical design aspects of complex projects from conception through commissioning.

*Key Responsibilities *

* Lead the detailed electrical design for water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and related infrastructure.
* Develop *P&IDs* (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) related to electrical systems, and prepare *single-line diagrams*, *schematics*, and electrical system layouts.
* Design and specify *motor control centers (MCCs)*, switchgear, transformers, variable frequency drives *(VFDs)*, and other power distribution equipment.
* Determine electrical system requirements, including *short-circuit analysis*, coordination studies, and arc flash analysis (working with consulting engineers as needed).
* Specify instrumentation and control devices and develop *control panel layouts* and wiring diagrams.
* Prepare detailed construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and bills of materials, ensuring compliance with *NEC, NFPA, UL508/698A*, and local jurisdictional codes.
* Collaborate closely with civil, mechanical, process, and instrumentation/controls engineering teams.
* Mentor junior designers and electrical staff, ensuring quality and adherence to design standards.
* Review vendor submittals and shop drawings for technical accuracy and conformance to design specifications.
* Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and startup phases.

*Required Qualifications and Experience *

* *10+ years* of progressive experience in electrical design, with a significant focus on *water, wastewater, or heavy industrial facilities*.
* Expert proficiency in *AutoCAD Electrical* for developing electrical drawings.
* Demonstrated expertise in the design of low and medium voltage power distribution systems, grounding, and lighting systems.
* Thorough knowledge of *National Electrical Code (NEC)* and other relevant industry standards and practices.
* Experience in the selection and application of electrical equipment in *hazardous (classified) locations*.
* Strong understanding of *instrumentation and control systems* used in the water/wastewater industry (PLC/SCADA systems, sensors, transmitters).
* Excellent communication, organizational, and technical writing skills.
* *Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Design,* or a related technical field is preferred.
