The Therapeutic Coach Team Leader plays a key clinical and leadership role in the implementation of the START Model , a strengths-based, trauma-informed framework designed to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and co-occurring mental health or behavioral health needs . START services are grounded in the belief that every person possesses unique abilities, talents, and potential—and that by promoting positive experiences , recognizing strengths , and fostering personal interests , we can support stability, healing, and meaningful engagement in community life.
The Therapeutic Coach Team Leader provides clinical oversight, supervision, and mentorship to a team of START Therapeutic Coaches. This leader ensures that therapeutic services, community linkages, crisis stabilization efforts, and family supports are implemented with fidelity and compassion.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and support Therapeutic Coaches through regular performance evaluations, reflective supervision, coaching, scheduling, and case consultation.
- Monitor and manage caseload assignments to ensure adherence to clinical guidelines, ethical standards, and program fidelity.
- Facilitate regular team meetings focused on case reviews, evidence-informed practices, and continuous quality improvement.
- Lead onboarding and ongoing professional development, ensuring all team members are trained in START philosophy and interventions.
- Provide training for Therapeutic Coaches on effective coaching while maintaining program fidelity.
Clinical Practice & Crisis Stabilization
- Provide strengths-based clinical coaching and intervention to a small, active caseload, particularly during staff training or complex cases.
- Conduct initial therapeutic assessments and develop person-centered support plans for individuals experiencing distress or instability.
- Implement and monitor Cross-Systems Crisis Prevention and Intervention Plans (CSCPIPs) in collaboration with team members and system partners.
- Deliver post-discharge support for individuals returning to their home or community after inpatient psychiatric or residential treatment.
- Identify and monitor biopsychosocial risk factors to inform proactive crisis prevention strategies.
Community Engagement & Family Coaching
- Collaborate closely with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary support teams to promote understanding, communication, and sustainable strategies for success.
- Provide caregiver coaching focused on behavioral health stabilization, skill-building, and trauma-informed supports.
- Partner with START Coaches to deliver training, education, and hands-on support within natural environments (e.g., homes, schools, day programs).
Program Development & Systems Collaboration
- Support the development of community partnerships and service linkages to close resource gaps and increase access to therapeutic supports.
- Participate in program planning and strategic improvement initiatives with the START Leadership Team.
- Uphold cultural humility and responsiveness, ensuring that services respect each person’s cultural, linguistic, and identity-based needs.
Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation in START’s Information Reporting System (SIRS) and JEVS Human Services’ Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Maintain all necessary certifications and complete mandatory trainings, including START model training, CPR, First Aid, and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).
- Follow program policies and respond flexibly to the changing needs of individuals, teams, and the broader service system.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, behavioral health , or related human services field (preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience supporting individuals with IDD and co-occurring mental health or behavioral challenges .
- Demonstrated supervisory or team leadership experience , with a strong ability to mentor, develop, and support staff.
- Strong clinical and organizational skills, with a commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered, and culturally competent practices.
- Must become a certified START Coordinator within 12 months of employment (training provided).
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
- Successful completion of all required background checks.

The base salary for this position ranges from $63,000 - $68,000 annually. Base pay is one part of the Total Compensation that JEVS Human Services provides to recognize employees for their work.
