Position Description
CGI is seeking a seasoned Automation Lab Support to join our growing team supporting life science clients through end-to-end solution offerings and professional services. This individual must be able to work in a cross-functional environment and interact with representatives from CGI, and our end-clients. This lab engineer will work at various CGI/ clients consulting and executing various life science business and IT initiatives from infrastructure support, lab system support, shop floor, instrument integration and system processes expertise.

This position is located in our West Point, PA client office, however a hybrid working model is acceptable.

Your future duties and responsibilities
. Automated workflow design: Collaborates with research scientists to understand manual cell culture procedures and viability assays to translate them into efficient, automated workflows.
. System implementation: Programs and troubleshoots integrated lab systems, including robotic arms, liquid handlers, automated incubators, and analytical devices.
. Method development and validation: Designs, executes, and documents validation experiments for new and optimized protocols
. Integration: Connects multiple pieces of equipment into a single, cohesive system and integrates with data management systems like LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems).
. Data acquisition and analysis: Programs software to capture real-time data on cell health, growth, and morphology, and uses this data to inform automated decisions.
. Training and support: Provides training to lab staff on new automated equipment and protocols and offers technical support.
. Maintenance and calibration: Coordinates the onboarding, maintenance, and calibration of automated systems to ensure they remain operational and accurate.
Automated cell culture tasks:
An automation engineer might program systems to perform the following cell culture tasks:
. Cell seeding: Precisely dispense cell suspensions into culture vessels, such as 96- or 384-well plates, for high-throughput applications.
. Media exchange: Conduct routine feeding schedules for cell lines, including complex 2D and 3D cultures like organoids.
. Cell counting: Count cells using automated systems based on the Coulter principle for greater accuracy and standardization.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
A successful automation engineer in this field typically possesses a combination of scientific knowledge and technical expertise.

. Programming: Strong skills in languages like Python, C#, and R are highly desirable, especially for integrating different instruments and analyzing data.
. Lab automation experience: Hands-on experience with specific lab automation platforms and liquid handlers, such as Hamilton STARlet, Beckman BioMek, or those from Molecular Devices, is critical.
. Cell culture expertise: A strong understanding of mammalian cell culture principles, including for specialized cell types like iPSCs and organoids, is a significant advantage.

Education Minimum Requirement:
. Bachelor's degree in engineering, Automated Sciences, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry or equivalent with scientific expertise with laboratory equipment in the development and execution of assays in a regulated bioanalytical environment.
Other Information:
CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $67,800.00 - $228,100.00.
