OBJECTIVE:

To ensure Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants understand the duties and responsibilities required of them in providing service to the Rouse-Warren County Home.

QUALITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF WORK:

  1. Screens may be performed including data collection and documentation provided the information is relayed to the OTR including cosigning of the screen sheet.
  2. Provides OT services under the supervision and direction of an OTR who is licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  3. Will not initiate and/or alter a treatment program without proper evaluation by an approval of the OTR.
  4. Adjusts treatment procedures based upon changes in resident status following approval by the OTR.
  5. Documents therapeutic interventions and services delivered according to state and federal regulations.
  6. Communicates and coordinates treatment functions with other disciplines in a constructive manner that helps build team effectiveness and cooperation.
  7. Communicates with OTR and DOR regarding department programs, goals, objectives, problems, and successes.
  8. Promotes a safe working environment and works to eliminate fire and safety hazards broken or defective equipment supplies.
  9. Participates in Care Plan, Interdisciplinary Rehab and Department meetings as appropriate.
  10. Supervises support personnel (Restorative Aide/Rehab Aide) with respect to state laws and professional standards.
  11. Advises DOR/OTR regarding ordering of supplies and equipment as necessary to maintain optimal resident care standards.
  12. Participates in educational in-services/programs regarding occupational therapy to staff, residents, and the community at large.
  13. Ensures cleanliness of department and facilities per infection control policies and procedures.
  14. Adheres to the policies and procedures of the Rouse-Warren County Home. Assists in the development, review and implementation of policies and procedure as appropriate.
  15. Assists in the planning, development and implementation of new or enhanced programs and services.
  16. Participates in facility/department QA/TQI programs as appropriate.
  17. May be requested to perform tasks not included in the job description from time to time.
  18. Demonstrate and articulate sound clinical reasoning in treatment planning, implementation, & monitoring of resident progress.
  19. Recognize when standard patient protocols or treatment plans need modification to meet individual resident needs & reports to therapist (OTR).
  20. Understand the role of therapy in the context of resident’s age, total needs perspective & environment.
  21. Perform age appropriate competency skills with respect to individual resident problems.
  22. Resident care documentation is timely, legible, and efficient.
  23. Notes are concise, pertinent & meet departmental documentation standards
  24. Utilizes support personnel (aides) when appropriate & when available.
  25. Consistently meet resident care productivity standard for position.
  26. Work cooperatively with peers to contribute to the overall productivity of the team
  27. Adheres to professional, ethical, & legal standards of practice.
  28. Demonstrates proper telephone use and assists in clerical and billing tasks.

 

Experience : Hands-on clinical experience

 

Education : Must be a graduate from an accredited OTA program

 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Good physical and mental health.
  2. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language
  3. Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
  4. Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents bases on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
  5. Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress of this position.
  6. Physical demands: frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, bending, and standing for long periods of time.
