NC Programming Engineer - Multi-Axis Machining

Step into a Day on Our CNC Team (Pittsburgh – Cheswick)

Morning begins collaborating with design engineering to plan the release of new products and perform producibility reviews of drawings before they go live. From there, you’ll translate concepts into robust CNC strategies—developing machining processes, selecting the right tooling, and building CAM libraries to drive quality and repeatability. Throughout the day, you’ll analyze product and project flow data, labor standards, and equipment needs to improve throughput, reduce unit cost, and support sound manufacturing decisions. You’ll act as a technical bridge across program management, finance, design, quality, procurement, inspection, and production, and you’ll assist in evaluating engineering changes and specification updates. You’ll also safeguard NC program files (revision control and security per EMD procedures), support new machine tool acquisitions, and mentor Operator Programmers (qualified hourly machinists) on best practices.

What You’ll Tackle

• Coordinate with Product Manufacturing Engineers on initial designs and redesign efforts.
• Feed Design for Manufacturability (DFM) recommendations back into product development.
• Create end-to-end machining workflows, including tool selection for components and sub-assemblies.
• Maintain NC program configuration control and security per EMD procedures.
• Partner with equipment acquisition teams when evaluating and purchasing new CNC machine tools.
• Train and mentor Operator Programmers (qualified hourly machinists).
• Build and maintain CAM tooling libraries using vendor catalogs.

Qualifications

• Due to DoD requirements, candidates must be US citizens.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearances and approvals.
• BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent).
• 5+ years in a manufacturing environment with depth in one or more: machining, welding/fabrication, assembly, electrical, plastics.
• 5+ years of CAM programming (e.g., Mastercam) for NC program generation.
• Siemens NX CAD for NC programming is a plus.
• Strong blueprint reading; GD&T per ASME Y14.5M.
• Experience with commercial nuclear and/or military quality systems.
• Proficiency with MS Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of 3D solid modeling is a plus.

Compensation

Salary: $75,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
