Insurance design specialist
JOB OVERVIEW:
We are looking for a client-facing Insurance Design Specialist to join our planning team. This role is salary-based (not commission-based) and focused on client service, not sales. The Insurance Design Specialist will partner directly with our advisors in client planning conversations, identify insurance needs, deliver solutions, and provide long-term servicing of policies. This position is ideal for someone who understands comprehensive financial planning, has a passion for insurance planning, and thrives in both client and team collaboration.
You’ll play a critical role in the value we deliver for clients, as well as ensuring clients feel valued by providing seamless communication, managing the details, and delivering results. If you’re passionate about finding creative solutions to risk management through insurance, thrive on getting things done, and take pride in creating a positive client experience, this is the position for you.
WHO WE ARE:
Capital Planning is an independent wealth management firm founded with a mission to provide financial planning with purpose, so clients can focus on enjoying life. We offer a full range of wealth management services, grounded in comprehensive planning and independent thinking. Over the last 30+ years, we have formed a team to address the complexities of financial planning, in order to provide simplicity for our clients.
We are a client-centered team that places a strong emphasis on collaboration and shared success. At the same time, we believe in aligning each team member’s unique strengths with their responsibilities and empowering self-management in individual tasks.
If you thrive in a supportive team environment where you’re given the autonomy to take ownership of your role, this opportunity is for you. Most importantly, we’re looking for someone with a servant's heart, dedicated to serving others and making a positive impact.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
· Provide positive and professional service to the client base assigned.
· Join advisor internal planning meetings to bring a focused lens on risk management and insurance opportunities.
· Work alongside the advisor team by asking the right questions behind the scenes, helping us collectively prepare and design solutions without extra burden on the client.
· Work directly with clients (approximately half your time) to explain insurance needs, walk through options, and deliver recommendations.
· Identify and address needs in key areas, including:
o Life insurance (including estate tax strategies)
o Long-term care insurance
o Disability insurance
o Annuities (as appropriate)
· Select the right products, manage the application process, and handle all paperwork through policy placement.
· Provide ongoing policy management — answering client questions, evaluating premium changes, reviewing coverage, guiding long-term decisions, and policy changes such as beneficiaries or client address.
· Proactively use eMoney (the team’s planning software) to review upcoming client meetings and flag potential needs, then research and pitch potential solutions.
· Collaborate with advisors to ensure insurance strategies remain fully integrated into the client’s financial plan.
WHAT YOU NEED:
· Strong knowledge of comprehensive financial planning (CFP® preferred; CLU a plus).
· Deep expertise in insurance planning and products across life, disability, long-term care, and annuities.
· Client-facing experience and the ability to communicate complex insurance strategies clearly and empathetically.
· Proactive, collaborative, and comfortable coaching teammates while also taking direct ownership of solutions.
· Experience with eMoney or similar planning software.
· Passion for serving clients with thoughtful insurance strategies - not selling.
· Skills in teaching. This role requires the ability to convey complex topics in a way that is simplistic and easily understood by clients. This includes verbal skills and also visual creation skills (for handouts/summaries), to convey the strategy suggested.
· Ability to start with day-one technical competence, learning our processes rather than needing to be taught insurance fundamentals.
· Bachelor's degree or higher strongly preferred.
· Clean U-4 and U-5 history/background
o Licensed in Life and Health (required)
o FINRA SIE, Series 7, 66 (preferred)
· An independent thinker self-motivated by the potential impact of service, with a hunger for growth, learning and joyful service.
COMPENSATION AND STRUCTURE:
· In exchange for your expertise, we offer a base salary, individual and team bonus potential, 401(k) plus matching, health benefits, charitable match, a potential for career growth, and a great working environment. This is your chance to play a key role in the continued success of our company. For more information about our company, please visit our website
· Full-time in person role.
· Mix of direct client work and internal collaboration with the advisor team.
· Initial training period of ~1–2 months to learn our process, followed by direct client-facing work.
