Chief Financial Officer
POSITION: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
STATUS: Full Time/Exempt
REPORTABILITY: Executive Director
GENERAL SUMMARY :
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the executive leadership team and serves as the strategic advisor on all financial matters. The CFO will lead financial planning, budgeting, cash flow management, and reporting while ensuring the long-term sustainability and fiscal integrity of Family House. This individual will also oversee investments, audits, compliance, and financial systems, and will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and Finance Committee to align financial operations with the organization's mission and strategic goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement short- and long-term financial strategies in support of Family House's mission and strategic plan.
- Advise the CEO, Board of Directors, and Finance & Investment Committee on financial planning, risk management, and investment strategies.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and collaborative partner to other senior leaders on operational and programmatic decisions.
Financial Operations
- Direct and oversee all accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
- Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and ensure timely reporting to the CEO and Board.
- Monitor and manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
- Serve as primary Family House liaison for all banking and investment advisor relationships.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP).
- Oversee preparation for the annual independent audit and coordinate the work of auditors.
- Maintain internal controls and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets. Ensure that the overall system of internal accounting controls is adequate to protect all Family House assets.
Team & Systems Management
- Lead and manage the finance and accounting staff; foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and transparency.
- Evaluate and upgrade financial systems, processes, and technology to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Collaborate with development and program teams to support grant budgeting, reporting, and funder compliance.
Board Engagement
- Prepare and present financial reports and analysis to the Board of Directors and relevant committees.
- Support Board-level committees, especially the Finance & Investment Committee, with insights and materials to guide oversight.
REQUIRMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally including experience in a nonprofit organization.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, financial reporting standards, and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute effectively across organizational functions.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience in the use of financial/accounting systems, with Quickbooks Online experience highly desirable. Proficiency with Excel and financial modeling.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
