Structural BIM Designer
Your impact
At Jacobs, we’re partnering across the globe to create the best project outcomes—connecting design excellence, digital technology, and our Global Integrated Delivery (GID) teams. You’ll collaborate with experts worldwide while remaining grounded in a strong local Philadelphia practice.
We believe in designing careers, empowering our people to grow, innovate, and make a lasting impact—today and into tomorrow.
Become part of our Philadelphia, PA team as a Structural BIM Designer, where you’ll play a key role in delivering innovative structural designs for private-sector Cities and Places clients. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects ranging from new, multi‑building urban developments to complex renovations and adaptive reuse of historic structures.
This role is ideal for a motivated designer who thrives in a collaborative, design-led environment and is excited about leveraging BIM technologies to support high-quality, constructible solutions.
Structural BIM Designers at Jacobs are far more than drafters. You will be an integral member of the structural design team, partnering closely with Structural Engineers, BIM Designers across disciplines, and construction trade partners to develop efficient, coordinated designs.
You will take concepts from early design through construction documentation, using Revit-based 3D models and traditional 2D deliverables to clearly communicate structural intent. You’ll build models from the ground up, actively coordinate with other disciplines using clash detection tools, and help resolve both real-world and modeled conflicts.
You’ll be entrusted with managing your own workload, meeting project deadlines, and fully owning the quality of your deliverables. Career growth is driven by your initiative, technical capability, and leadership mindset.
This position is an opportunity to become a vital contributor on a growing team focused primarily on Cities and Places private-sector delivery, shaping urban environments and community-focused spaces.
What You'll Do
- Develop structural BIM models using Revit, fully utilizing parametric and live model functionality to produce intelligent, coordinated designs
- Create and modify Revit families, details, and structural elements to meet project-specific needs
- Produce conceptual structural models based on verbal direction, sketches, or markups from engineers and designers
- Incorporate standard notes and details into construction document sets
- Manage and incorporate electronic redlines using established project workflows
- Take full ownership of assigned structural scope, consistently meeting schedule, budget, and quality targets
- Perform model coordination and clash detection, resolving conflicts with other disciplines
- Advance BIM workflows, tools, and automation initiatives within the structural discipline
- Maintain a high focus on quality and consistency, ensuring compliance with project and Jacobs standards
- Provide quality reviews of models and documents prepared by others
- Support and contribute to the ongoing maintenance of BIM/CAD standards and best practices
- Collaborate effectively with Engineers, Designers, and BIM teams across disciplines
- Mentor and support junior designers, including task delegation and technical guidance (for experienced designers)
Here's what you'll need
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on Revit experience in structural design
- Experience using Revit add-ins and coordination tools
- Strong background in reinforced concrete and steel detailing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset
