Saints Philip and James Parish and its entities is a Roman Catholic religious organization where all employees are expected to respect and conduct themselves in accordance with the values, teachings, and morals of the Roman Catholic Church.
Saints Philip and James Parish is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented part-time Parish Business Manager with 10+ years’ experience, preferably in a faith-based organization. The ideal candidate will be a committed and engaged Catholic who will provide leadership for managing the parish finances and facilities.
Position Summary
The Parish Business Manager is responsible for the management of the financial and temporal aspects of the Parish in such a way as to enable the Pastor to concentrate on the spiritual affairs of the Parish. This position is always framed by the necessary approvals from the Pastor in concert with the Policies, Procedures and Guidelines set forth by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia regarding financial and temporal transactions.
The position requires significant dialogue with the Pastor so that he is fully apprised of matters being considered and acted upon by the Parish Business Manager.
The Parish Business Manager must be sensitive to the nature of information he/she has access to and must treat it confidentially.
Position Qualifications
- The Business Manager is expected to have knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Church and her mission. Professional experience in bookkeeping, accounting, management and operations is necessary. The Business Manager should have:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting or business management is required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- The ability to perform outlined tasks with minimum supervision.
- The ability to prioritize projects

- Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and budgeting
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- The ability to represent oneself professionally

Position Description
1. Financial Management
a. Financial Records
i. Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-to-date financial reports.
ii. Provide for review by the Pastor and the Parish Finance Council.
iii. Provide fiscal year-end financial reports Office for Parish Service & Support.
iv. Prepare financial reports required by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia or the Pastor.
v. Review contracts encumbering the parish for goods or services.
b. Financial Internal Control
i. Monitor internal parish processes.
ii. Establish security procedures to ensure the security of parish funds.
iii. Provide for segregation of duties for all receipt related activities.
iv. Obtain signature by the Pastor on all checks.
c. Funds Management
i. Ensure reconciliation of all bank and investment accounts.
ii. Monitor Money Market Fund balances to optimize interest income.
iii. Establish renewal series for Certificates of Deposit.
iv. Manage Counting Teams.
v. Manage all Stewardship Programs.
d. Budget
i. Prepare an annual Operating and Capital Budget.
ii. Obtain approval by the Pastor and Parish Finance Council.
iii. Submit annual budgets to the Office for Parish Service & Support.
iv. Provide quarterly variance reports to the Pastor and Parish Finance Council.
e. Parish Records
i. Secure sensitive information.
ii. Maintain parish records according to Archdiocesan record retention guidelines.
f. Physical Plant
i. Manage outsourced contracts for property management.
ii. Inspect all completed maintenance and repair projects.
iii. Provide Stewardship of Property report to the Pastor and Finance Council.
iv. Ensure compliance with Archdiocesan Guidelines for Capital Projects.
g. Parish Organizations
i. Monitor compliance with Archdiocesan policy regarding all bank accounts.
ii. Coordinate the fund-raising efforts of the Parish and School.
h. Other Duties as Assigned
