Transit Architectural Designer

Job Description:

Responsible for coordinating the preparation of architectural documents by architectural and engineering teams for assigned transportation-related projects under supervision of licensed architect. Prepare detailed specifications, drawings and architectural design plans for buildings and structures in conformity with project requirements and applicable codes, including IBC, NFPA and applicable local codes and zoning requirements. Ensure conformance with client standards, established architectural practices and technical adequacy of design and construction. Assist in developing design and technical solutions for projects in all phases, including graphics, renderings, and complex BIM modeling. Serve in project designer capacity to develop design and technical solutions for projects in all project phases. Perform design computations and data compilation; research, analyze and record design and construction systems, planning studies, design layouts, and construction features; oversee research for development of specifications, including coordinating with manufacturers; conduct site and construction inspections for data compilation and prepare interpretive reports; execute code analysis, material selections, and technical solutions; interface and collaborate with various disciplines, clients, and consultants. Perform BIM operations, including 2D drafting, parametric 3D modelling and discipline 3D model coordination. Develop and maintain design and technical BIM models. Position duties require utilization of specialized design software and drawing tools, including AutoCAD, 2D and 3D design software and drawing tools, BIM applications (Revit and OpenBuildings), Rhino 3D modeling design software, Enscape rendering software, Adobe Creative Suite and ProjectWise. Position is based in Douglassville, Pennsylvania; may work at home up to 2 days per week, subject to change at any time. Position duties require approximately 25% travel time to project sites within Northeastern US.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in architecture, followed by minimum five years of progressive experience either in the position offered or as an architectural designer preparing design and construction drawings, plans, sections, elevations, and details through all project phases, from schematic design through construction administration, using AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Enscape, and Adobe Creative Suite, serving in a project designer capacity to develop design and technical solutions for projects in all project phases; developing project specifications and identifying suitable products/building materials; participating in building code analysis and ensuring conformity with applicable codes; reviewing document submittals; conducting site visits; multidisciplinary and consultant coordination; completing architectural design documents. At least one year of required experience must be in architectural design of transportation-related structures including station, concourse and platform design, structural coordination and public realm. Up to two years of required experience may be satisfied by a master’s degree in architecture or architectural design. Also requires design portfolio demonstrating the ability to create architectural designs, high-quality renderings and BIM models suitable for the company’s architecture and engineering projects, including for transportation-related projects.
