ABOUT THE SCHOOL:

Located in the heart of Oakland, Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children is a one-of-a-kind educational experience committed to empowering our students to realize their full potential. The School also provides vital early intervention and outreach services to visually impaired students, with or without additional challenges, throughout western Pennsylvania. Founded in 1887, our School is best equipped to care for and educate students with visual impairments. As a private institution chartered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the School educates approximately 200 enrolled students from 80-85 school districts within western Pennsylvania.

POSITION SUMMARY:

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: 187 days per year; Sundays through Thursdays from 11:00pm to 7:00am.

Pay: $21-22 per hour depending on education level achieved. Shift differential as well.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Student Supervision & Safety
  • Provide continuous supervision of students overnight hours
  • Assist with personal care needs, such as feeding, mealtime, toileting, mobility, self-care, and hygiene.
  • Implement safety plans
  • Ensure a safe, structured, and supportive residential environment for all residential students.
• Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support
  • Support implementation of positive behavior intervention plans (PBIPs) and reinforcement strategies.
  • When applicable, model and promote appropriate social skills, self-regulation, and coping strategies.
• Collaboration & Communication
  • Work under the direction of the Overnight Manager.
  • Maintain professional and confidential relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • To accept/follow directives and supervision regarding the students and their programs.
  • To be flexible regarding daily assignments
• Documentation & Reporting
  • Collect and record data on student performance, participation, and behavior as directed.
  • Follow all school, state, and federal guidelines for documentation, confidentiality, and mandated reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate’s degree required
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children with disabilities.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Physical ability to lift, position, and assist students as required by individual needs.
• Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations
• Must be able to remain alert, awake, and attentive during overnight hours
• Must hold proper clearances for Acts 34, 114, and 151.
