Intermodal Coordinator

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Intermodal Coordinator to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will manage the seamless delivery of goods from rail to customers, ensuring efficient operations and exceptional service. You will strategically match carrier equipment to customer loads, negotiate rates, and maintain strong relationships with carriers. A key aspect of your role will be to minimize associated costs, such as chassis usage and ramp storage, while providing timely and complete information on all shipments. This position offers an exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in our intermodal operations and contribute to the growth and success of our company. Key Responsibilities:
- Carrier Coordination: Match carrier equipment to available customer loads, ensuring compliance with carrier qualifications and customer requirements.
- Carrier Relationships: Procure and maintain strong relationships with reliable dray carriers to ensure exceptional service and successful freight movement.
- Rate Negotiation: Negotiate competitive rates with carriers to optimize cost efficiency while maintaining high service standards.
- Shipment Tracking: Monitor shipments from pick-up to delivery, providing timely and accurate information to customers and stakeholders.
- Customer Service: Understand customer quotes, required equipment, and associated costs to provide seamless service and eliminate accessorial charges.
- Carrier Prospecting: Expand the carrier base by prospecting and documenting available equipment, preferred lanes, and service offerings.
- Communication: Ensure clear communication with carriers regarding on-time pick-up and timely in-gating to meet customer expectations.
- System Navigation: Utilize multiple TMS systems and load boards efficiently to manage operations and maintain service levels.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication abilities with a focus on negotiation and customer service.
- Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on building strong relationships with carriers and customers.
- Problem-Solving: Proven problem-solving abilities, particularly in managing transportation-related challenges.
- Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and experience with TMS systems.
- Industry Knowledge: Understanding of intermodal operations, including container types, rail companies, and industry regulations.
- Education: High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of two years in the transportation industry, with a focus on intermodal operations.
- Customer Service: At least two years of experience in customer service or sales, with a passion for delivering high-quality service.
- Team Player: Motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work effectively in a team environment.
