POSITION SUMMARY
Modern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a Network & Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to design, deploy, and automate next-generation network infrastructure that supports Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads. This role is key to ensuring the performance, stability, and scalability of critical networks, including both traditional hardware (switches, routers, firewalls) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) within the OpenShift Container Platform (OCP). The Network Development Engineer will collaborate with a diverse team of software and platform engineers, as well as external partners, to deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable networking solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):
- Design, deploy, and maintain critical network infrastructure (traditional hardware and Software-Defined Networking, especially for OpenShift Container Platform).
- Automate network operations by creating and implementing changes through programming and automation frameworks.
- Troubleshoot and optimize routing, interconnectivity, platforms, and performance issues, including Linux systems and next-gen networking tools.
- Develop scalable and sustainable solutions , ensuring they are simple, repeatable, and compliant with organizational standards.
- Support innovation across the full network stack, from Top of Rack to Network Border.
- Collaborate with Network Architects to roll out new designs , products, and sustainment activities.
- Apply best practices in network operations, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, and optimization.
- Produce technical documentation to support deployments, standards, and ongoing operations.
- Engage with customers and vendors to gather requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) TS/SCI clearance with Counterintelligence polygraph.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering or network development roles.
- 3+ years of programming/scripting experience using Python or Go for network automation or tooling.
- 3+ years of experience with networking protocols and architectures (LAN, WAN, VLANs, routing, firewalls).
- 2+ years of practical experience with automation/configuration frameworks (e.g., Ansible).
- Experience working with networking APIs (RESTful APIs, Open vSwitch /OVN, or similar).
- Strong ability to troubleshoot and optimize network performance, connectivity, and routing across Linux and containerized environments.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with technical teams, vendors, and mission stakeholders.
- Demonstrated time management and prioritization skills in a fast-paced engineering environment.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) technologies, such as SONiC , Cumulus NOS, or Open vSwitch (OVS/OVN).
- Familiarity with OpenShift/Kubernetes networking (CNI plugins, MetalLB , Service Mesh, Network Observability Operator).
- Hands-on experience with service mesh technologies for authentication, load balancing, monitoring, and resilience.
- Exposure to AI workload environments or high-performance compute networking.
- Experience driving infrastructure innovation across the full network stack (Top of Rack to Border).
- Strong background in technical documentation and applying best practices in network operations.
