Safety & Protection Services Manager
- Coordinate the Museum’s occupational health and safety programs and maintain required documentation.
- Conduct workplace inspections, identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and monitor issues through resolution.
- Support compliance with applicable OSHA requirements, NFPA standards, City of Philadelphia codes, and other fire, life-safety, Safety and workplace-safety requirements.
- Investigate workplace injuries, near misses, safety complaints, and potential violations; document findings and recommend preventive and corrective measures.
- Coordinate safety matters with Protection Services, Human Resources, Facilities, Finance, Risk Management, and other departments.
- Support workers’ compensation documentation, accident investigation, loss-control recommendations, trend analysis, and injury-prevention initiatives.
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver workplace-safety, fire-safety, evacuation, and emergency-preparedness training.
- Develop and maintain emergency plans, procedures, equipment, and employee guidance.
- Plan and evaluate fire drills, evacuation exercises, and tabletop exercises; complete after-action reviews and track corrective actions.
- Coordinate institution-wide security escort requests and provide operational support during incidents, emergencies, and special events.
- Support access-control, credentialing, key and lock, video-surveillance, alarm, and related security systems in coordination with Museum technology staff and vendors.
- Provide technical guidance to Museum staff on occupational safety, workplace health, environmental protection, fire protection, and emergency response.
- Participate in the Museum’s Safety Committee, present identified concerns, and support approved corrective measures.
- Monitor developments in relevant safety and security practices and communicate applicable information to Museum staff.
- Prepare reports, procedures, training materials, inspection records, and program recommendations for the Director of Protection Services.
- Respond to urgent conditions and support emergency operations, including occasional work outside normal business hours.
- Responsibility for coordinating the Museum’s institutional Safety Committee.
- Minimum qualification requires the ability to provide occupational and workplace-safety instruction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A minimum of five (5) years of responsible experience developing and maintaining security, occupational health & safety, and fire safety programs for a large institution.
- The individual will advise management of appropriate measures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Significant knowledge of security electronics and an ability to analyze and address common system failures and improvements in cooperation with the Museum’s Information and Interpretive Technologies Department is a requirement.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in occupational safety, security operations, emergency preparedness, regulatory compliance, risk management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience conducting workplace inspections, investigating incidents, coordinating training, and documenting corrective actions.
- Working knowledge of occupational safety, fire and life safety, emergency-management practices, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Working knowledge of access-control, video-surveillance, alarm, or other security technologies and the ability to coordinate system issues with technology staff and vendors.
- Strong written, verbal, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage confidential information, and collaborate effectively across departments.
- Proficiency with standard office software and electronic recordkeeping systems.
- Ability to respond to emergencies and occasionally work evenings, weekends, or holidays.
- OSHA 30-hour certification or other relevant occupational safety training or the ability to obtain within six months after hire.
- The salary for this position is $100,000.
- This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and 35 hours per week.
- This position reports to Director of Protection Services
- Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
- Job-specific physical requirements
- Ability to travel between the museum facilities and inspect galleries, offices, loading docks, mechanical areas, exterior spaces, and other environmental operations
- Ability to walk or stand for extended periods, use stairs as necessary, and wear personal protective equipment
- Ability to respond promptly to incidents and emergencies throughout the museum facilities
