POSITIO N TITLE: PARTS COUNTERPERSON
DEPARTMENT: PARTS
REPORTS TO: PARTS MANAGER
FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT
PURPOSE:
The Parts Counterperson sells parts to ALL available customers, over the counter, through the shop, or on the phone.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
n Assist walk-in customers in selecting required parts, suggest companion requirements, offer specials, and ensure that the customer is exposed to the full product line.
n Pull purchased parts from stock.
n If the part is not in stock, determine availability and submit an emergency order if requested by the customer or tech.
n Answer phone calls, providing price quotes and other information.
n Assist outside sales reps with their orders.
n Set up orders for daily shipment, delivery, or pick-up.
n Verify WILL CALL and BACKORDER files weekly and return to vendors, or stock those items not required.
n Solicit assigned accounts by phone.
n Assist service technicians in selecting parts needed for repairs in process.
n Notify service desk and the customer that ordered parts have been received.
n Ensure that before parts can be charged out, the technician presents a repair order.
n Display seasonal parts and accessories in an attractive manner.
n Keep parts catalogs and price books current.
n Keep all bins, aisles and storage areas clean, neat and clearly labeled.
n Be friendly, professional and efficient when working with customers and co-workers.
n Provide the same high level of service to the other dealership departments. as is given to other customers.
n Issue credit slips for parts returned, ensuring that the original invoice or its number, is available so that purchase and pricing can. be verified. Exceptions must be approved by the Parts Manager or Office Manager.
n When taking tax-exempt sales other than to a charge or cash account, ensure that the customer’s full name, address, fed ID # and signature is obtained.
n Present the customer with the white copy of the invoice after removing the tear strip.
n Keep front and rear counters clean and uncluttered.
n Replenish assigned inventory daily.
n Advise Parts Manager when areas of the department are not in satisfactory condition.
n Carefully check invoices against orders and stock shelves promptly.
n Help maintain parts storage in orderly condition.
n Keep counters and parts area free of litter.
n Assist in keeping parts catalogs updated.
n Inform technicians and customers when special order parts arrive.
n Keep current on new products and product updates.
n Participate in all training programs that are made available
n If customers pay by invoice, obtain the following information: form of payment (if by check, include the check number). amount of payment, date and any change given and received by (your name).
n Keep computer terminals clean.
QUALIFICATIONS:
n High school diploma or equivalent.
n Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
n One year of experience in an automotive parts dept.
n One year of sales experience.
n Professional personal appearance.
n Ability to work well with the public, sometimes with several customers at a time.
n Will be required to wear a dealership uniform at all times.
