GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION :
The Admissions Counselor works with the college team to plan and lead the recruitment for College programs, and spreads the message through various media. This position works closely with the marketing staff to ensure communication with potential students across various media.
ENROLLMENT RESPONSIBILITIES :
● The Admissions Counselor has responsibility for ensuring VFMC participation in various off-campus recruiting events regionally and occasionally nationally.
● The Admission Counselor will:
o Participate in application evaluation and admission decisions.
o Contact prospective cadets and maintain contact with those individuals, managing application the application paperwork process.
o Coordinate and participate in Open Houses.
o Attend special fairs, i.e. college, preparatory and camp.
o Travel to visit high schools, colleges, universities, guidance counselors, educational consultants or others who may provide prospective students.
o Keep files of prospective students and follow up with leads.
o Maintain regular office hours during the week when not traveling.
o Assist families through the financial aid process.
o Distribute and collect Reporting Orders to deposited students.
o Pass student files to the Registrar for registration and onboarding.
o Conduct informational sessions (face to face or virtual) in cooperation with the college team.
o Provide appropriate follow-up communication with prospective students regarding inquiries on course content, campus and cadet life, and scholarship opportunities, working with the Provost and Registrar to provide these answers.
● The Admissions Counselor must be prepared to work weekends and evenings when appointments
● The Admissions Counselor will participate in the college team as required to develop programming and complete college projects.
● The Admissions Counselor will assist in the development of a marketing and communications plan to attract new students and enhance the marketing of successful recruitment and outreach efforts to increase interest from prospective students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelors degree required.
Experience:
● Three to five years of admissions, marketing, communications, and/or related experiences, required.
● Experience developing or assisting in the development and successful implementation of recruitment or marketing plans strongly preferred.
● Three to five years experience recruiting high school and college students preferred.
Other/Special:
● Desirable personal qualities include: engaging, enthusiastic, flexible and good sense of humor. Evenings, weekends, and overnight travel (up to 60% travel from mid-August through mid-April may be required.)
● Must have outstanding written and oral communication skills.
● Ability to organize logistical and operational challenges.
● Demonstrated knowledge of secondary and higher education markets and environments.
