Staff Accountant
Job Title: Staff Accountant
Location: Hershey, PA
Status of Hire: direct placement; permanent
Reports to: Controller
Pay: $40k-55k
Under the direction of the Controller, performs general accounting duties to include payroll processing, inventory, journal entries, assists with Accounts Payable and Receivable, month end reconciliations as required, and any other assigned duties. Job Duties:
- Responsible for recording and posting various journal entries to correctly reflect revenue and expenses on the monthly financial statements. Analyze accounts by reviewing entries, verifying amounts, and correcting errors to ensure the accuracy of financial statements.
- Process bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees
- Work closely with Human Resources to collect, verify, and update employee data.
- Trouble shoot payroll issues timely, review and correct employee data to ensure data integrity.
- Work closely with third party payroll vendor to ensure timely and accurate reporting for benefits.
- Reconcile customer accounts related to the accounts receivable system and perform reconciliation between ERP systems.
- Generate, review, and send accurate customer invoices promptly, and reconcile both ERP systems.
- Record incoming customer payments and accurately match to specific invoices.
- Manage and record daily cash transactions and perform monthly bank reconciliations.
- Initiate monthly inventory cycle counts and work with the team to make necessary adjustments.
- Perform month end and year end inventory activities to include account reconciliations and year end physical counts.
- Annual audit support.
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business administration, or equivalent business experience
- Two to four years of accounting experience overall
- Experience in accounting concepts, practices, and procedures
- Specific areas of expertise must include inventory, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, payroll, bank statement reconciliation, and reporting
- Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP to ensure accounting standards and internal control procedures are followed to produce accurate financial statements
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and accounting or business enterprise software
- Ability to work independently with great attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization.
- Well-developed problem-identification and problem-solving skills, with an orientation to details. Analytical ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and resolve accounting issues
- The position requires the ability to concentrate on details with occasional interruption and attend to tasks for 45 to 60 minutes at a time.
- Ability to understand theories behind related concepts and to remember multiple tasks given to self and others over periods; ability to prioritize given shifting priorities; ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
