About Our Company
Drunken Smithy is a small business in Central Pennsylvania teaching blacksmithing and other metalworking workshops. We invite people of all backgrounds, no experience necessary, to come forge with us at our shop in Lebanon, PA to have a fun time and learn a little about forging by making their own projects under the guidance of our blacksmiths. Drunken Smithy also has a retail store featuring beautiful items crafted in-house as well as an axe throwing venue and a mead hall inside the Lebanon Valley Mall.
Job Description
Join Our Team – no experience necessary! Drunken Smithy is now hiring full-time blacksmith instructors to help teach our forging workshops. We are looking for dedicated and trainable individuals who are interested in forging and eager to help make the craft accessible to newcomers. Instructors must be available to work weekends.
Forging experience is not required to apply – we will fan the fires in your heart and train you to become the blacksmithing bard you aspire to be! The staff at Drunken Smithy is made up of a fun group of folks with diverse backgrounds and experiences – there is no singular path to finding your way to the forge.
When they’re not busy at the anvil, our blacksmiths also facilitate Drunken Smithy’s recreational axe throwing activities. Our customers love to chat with our staff about the art of metalworking, so you can regale them with your passion and experience from the forge.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an Aspiring Blacksmith Instructor who is eager to learn the craft of bladesmithing and teaching workshops to the public. This role is ideal for someone who wants to train under experienced smiths, grow into a lead instructor role, and share traditional metalworking skills with others.
In addition to blacksmithing, we are especially interested in candidates who bring IT hardware and networking experience. While this won’t be your primary role, having skills in troubleshooting and setup will make you an invaluable member of the team.
Job Title: Blacksmith Instructor
Location: Lebanon, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Full-time (30–40hrs per week)
Pay: $21/hr after training period; $16-$18 to start depending on experience
Key Responsibilities – Blacksmithing:
- Train under experienced smiths to develop skills in forging knives, axes, swords, and other projects.
- Assist in leading workshops where customers forge their own projects.
- Ensure a safe, engaging, and educational workshop environment.
- Maintain shop tools, equipment, and workspaces.
- Support special events, festivals, and public programs.
- Provide a welcoming and entertaining environment for all students
- Prepare the workspaces for workshops open to the public
- Communicate shop safety for students and ensure that safety protocols are followed at all times
- Demonstrate, instruct, and guide all stages of forging our regular project offerings through to completion
- Safe operation of forges, power hammers, grinders, and other machinery and power tools
- Assist your team in regularly cleaning the shop
- Facilitate axe throwing and observe customers in the axe throwing lanes
- Manage the collection of workshop balances and retail sales via our point-of-sale
Key Responsibilities – IT/Technical Support:
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic IT issues (email server, Wi-Fi, intranet setup).
- Install, configure, and maintain PCs, tablets, phones, and projectors.
- Assist with wired and wireless networking setup and troubleshooting.
- Provide general tech support for staff as needed.

- Must demonstrate a high level of reliability and consistency in workplace performance
- Adherence to Safety Protocols; Individuals will be trained and expected to operate shop machinery including but not limited to power hammers and grinders
- Our clientele is primarily an adult audience, however we are also regularly teaching teenagers and even children to forge. While some of our students have done work in similar industries or regularly work with power tools, many members of our clientele have never done anything like this before! Our blacksmithing instructors are expected to make the workshops accessible and fun for students of any age as well as for students with varying levels of experience.

We are happy to train you to become a skilled blacksmith over time! While we don’t have specific requirements regarding who can learn to be a blacksmith, individuals with experience in any of the following fields may find their skills will transfer effectively into what we do.
