Library is open Monday through Saturday - 10AM to 6PM

Wages: $16.00/hour

Position Overview

Chester Springs Library is looking for a Library Assistant to perform circulation desk operations, assist with
general library tasks, and be willing to assist with library programs as needed.

Circulation desk operations include but are not limited to:

 Check-ins, check-outs, and placing holds
 Twice daily holds list procedures
 Creating new library cards
 Processing new material
 Weeding and withdrawals
 Answering patrons’ library questions in person and over the phone

General library tasks include but are not limited to:

 Shelving, straightening, and shifting books and other library materials
 Creating displays for books and library materials
 Assist patrons with public computers and printing
 Opening and closing procedures

Program assistance as needed includes but is not limited to:

 Helping with set-up and/or clean-up of the program area
 Assisting staff during program delivery
 Preparing materials for programs
 Assisting with monitoring activities and/or participants
 Outreach and/or fundraising events

Educational/Experience requirements:

 High School Diploma or equivalent
 Ability and desire to work with the public
 Must enjoy working with children of all ages, families, teens, and adults

 Knowledgeable of child development stages
 Capable of using Microsoft Office 365
 Proficient in Internet and email use
 Willing to maintain skills by attending job training when available

Physical Requirements:

 Must be able to lift, push, and move objects that may weigh up to 30 pounds
 Required to stoop, crouch, reach, sit, kneel, etc.

About Chester Springs Library

Chester Springs Library is in West Pikeland Township, in the picturesque Village of Historic Yellow
Springs. The library’s mission is to serve the residents of the area by making readily available a variety of
materials, resources, and programs to promote education, learning, and recreation both virtually and in
person.

Library positions require the following criminal background and child abuse clearances
before employment begins:
 Report of Criminal History from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP)
 Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services (Child Abuse)
 Fingerprint based federal criminal history submitted through the Pennsylvania State Police or its

authorized agent (FBI)
