A vacancy exists for a Security Officer to work within the Office of Facilities and Operations at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. The Security Officer will assist program staff and supervisors in providing a safe and secure school environment for students from various backgrounds, including students who have experienced school failure, students identified as in need of special education, and students with severe behavioral and emotional challenges. This position is located at our Discovery Center (375 Morris Rd. Lansdale, PA) .



Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• 1-3 years of experience as a security guard or law enforcement experience

• Experience with children and youth who have emotional, learning, and social challenges.

• Sensitive to individuals of diverse, cultural, ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds.

• Ability to complete Safety Cares training and CPR/First Aid training.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills

• Skills in conflict resolution and verbal de-escalation strategies, and if necessary, restrain physically aggressive students through 21 years of age.

• Ability to work independently and as a team member.

• Personal characteristics indicative of emotional stability, maturity, flexibility, tactfulness, cooperation and cheerfulness.

• Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI

• The holder of this position could be required as part of his or her duties to engage in activities that can be charged to a Medical Assistance (MA) program. Clearance as a MA provider by both the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the federal government is therefore an essential qualification for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Observe and report activities and incidents at an assigned site, providing for the security and safety of the students, staff, and property.

• Interact with students in a non-threatening, therapeutic manner.

• Enforce school and IU policies, patrol the building and grounds, monitor student behavior, intervene in physical encounters, monitor security cameras, monitor visitors, and report unsafe or unhealthy conditions.

• Supervise students in corridors, cafeteria, van/bus loading and unloading, on excursions, and all other non-instructional areas of the building.

• Control access to site or facility through the admittance process. Utilize metal-detecting wand, scan bags brought into school including backpacks, purses, etc.

• Respond to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, etc.

• Actively model the mission, values, and operating principles of the MCIU.

• Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by the Program Administrator.

Location:
The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located in Norristown, PA and provides services to students in classrooms/locations located throughout Montgomery County, PA. This position is located at our Discovery Center (375 Morris Rd. Lansdale, PA) .



Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 7.5 hours/day, 10 months (194 days/year)



Salary:
Starting at $24.04/hour
