Heavy Equipment GPS Operator
Job description:
We are seeking adaptable Heavy Equipment Operators to join our growing team. These positions involve the operation of heavy equipment including but not limited to excavators , dozers , haul trucks , backhoes , and wheel loaders . The Equipment Operators will primarily work on project sites in the Pittsburgh, PA area. A successful candidate should possess a positive attitude and at least 3-5 years of prior experience operating heavy equipment.
Essential Functions
- Operates heavy equipment with earth moving capabilities (70,000lbs minimum) in a safe and effective manner.
- Operate bulldozer and/or excavator with GPS technology
- Properly follows company and OSHA safety procedures.
- Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on equipment and reports defects or needed repairs to the foreman and/or superintendent.
- Ensures compliance with company control standards and procedures.
- Perform manual labor such as digging, shoveling, assisting with placement of pipe and material or other manual labor duties as assigned.
- Proactively communicates with foreman, superintendent and coworkers.
- Promotes teamwork that increases productivity and efficiency.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Work Environment
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
- Extreme weather conditions at the job sites.
- Loud noise levels on the job sites.
- Active jobsite with moving vehicles and heavy machinery.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, sitting and climbing for extended periods of time.
- Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery and whole-body vibrations.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to climb a ladder.
- Ability to use your hands to work with heavy equipment controls for an extended period.
- Ability to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
- Ability to work and walk on uneven terrain.
- Able to lift 50 pounds, sometimes more.
- Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing.
Position Type and Hours
- Full Time
- 10-hour day shifts
- Monday through Friday
- Overtime
Required Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED.
- Three years’ experience in operating heavy equipment.
- Ability to work from construction specifications and blueprints.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Degree or certificate in Heavy Equipment Operation or related field.
- Two - five years’ experience in operating heavy equipment related to site development.
- Certifications such as OSHA 10, OSHA 30 are a plus.
- Experience with GPS-equipped machines
