Job Summary:
The Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes, improving equipment performance, reducing downtime, increasing production efficiency, and ensuring product quality throughout the bottling operation. This role works closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Sanitation teams to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Process Optimization:
- Analyze production data and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, throughput, and product quality.
- Develop and implement process improvements to reduce waste, downtime, and operating costs.
- Monitor key process parameters and recommend corrective actions when deviations occur.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for process failures and recurring production issues.
- Support startup, commissioning, and validation of new equipment and production lines.
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, and Kaizen initiatives.
- Develop and track KPIs including:
- OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
- Line Efficiency
- Downtime
- Scrap and Yield Losses
- Changeover Performance
- Water and Utility Consumption
- Facilitate continuous improvement projects across the facility.
Production Support:
- Provide technical support to production teams during daily operations.
- Troubleshoot bottling, filling, packaging, processing, and utility systems.
- Work with operators and maintenance personnel to resolve equipment and process issues.
- Assist in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
Quality & Food Safety:
- Ensure all processes comply with:
- GMPs
- HACCP
- FDA Regulations
- Company Quality Standards
- Support quality investigations and corrective action plans.
- Participate in internal and external audits.
Engineering & Project Management:
- Lead capital improvement and process improvement projects.
- Develop project scopes, budgets, timelines, and implementation plans.
- Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, contractors, and vendors.
- Create and update P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and technical documentation.
Utilities & Process Systems:
- Monitor and optimize:
- Water Treatment Systems
- Reverse Osmosis Systems
- Carbon Filtration Systems
- Boilers and Steam Systems
- Chillers and Glycol Systems
- Compressed Air Systems
- CIP Systems
- Identify opportunities for utility savings and process reliability improvements.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Analyze production and maintenance data using CMMS, SCADA, PLC data, and reporting software.
- Generate reports and presentations for plant leadership.
- Track project performance and savings generated from improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Related Engineering Field
Experience:
- 3–7 years of experience in beverage, food, pharmaceutical, or consumer packaged goods manufacturing.
- Experience with high-speed bottling, filling, packaging, or processing systems preferred.
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
Required Skills:
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of bottling and packaging processes.
- Understanding of food safety and quality systems.
- Statistical analysis and process capability experience.
- Project management skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing software systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to walk production floors for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders and work around industrial equipment.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work flexible hours when supporting projects or production needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Beverage, bottling, food manufacturing, or production experience.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, FactoryTalk, Ignition, or Wonderware systems.
- Experience supporting filling, packaging, palletizing, and conveyor systems.
- Startup, commissioning, or line integration experience.
- Knowledge of OEE, MES, and continuous improvement methodologies.
