This position is located under Environmental Management Service. Incumbent performs a full range of housekeeping duties within the medical center to include areas that requires physical labor and strict adherence to aseotic cleaning procedures

Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Assure proper storage and usage of a variety of cleaning agents and solutions.
- Complete housekeeping duties in accordance with established procedures and acceptable infection control measures.
- Clean, disinfect and maintain cleanliness in assigned patient wards, administrative areas and public areas utilizing proper tools/equipment to comply with sanitation standards.
- Walk, stand, stoop, bend, and lift to perform housekeeping duties.
- Sweeping and mopping floors repetitively in high traffic areas such as corridors, restrooms, stairways, entryways, cafeterias and other areas.
- Transport general refuse, bio hazardous waste and recyclables to proper central collection areas following established waste management procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by the Service.

Physical Requirements : You must able to handle weights up to 20-50 lbs. in dealing with heavy trash and linen, as well as products such as stripper/finish etc. that come in large heavy containers. You must push, pull, load and unload carts: bend stoop, twist and turn with moderate effort: climb ladders to change cubical curtains: clean out-light fixtures, and clean windows. You must be able to fit and kneel in small spaces to clean, i.e. restrooms stalls and other tight areas.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities. HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.
Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
