Carpenter instructor
About Our Company
Drunken Smithy is a small business in Central Pennsylvania teaching blacksmithing and other metalworking workshops. We invite people of all backgrounds, no experience necessary, to come forge with us at our shop in Lebanon, PA to have a fun time and learn a little about forging by making their own projects under the guidance of our blacksmiths. Drunken Smithy also has a retail store featuring beautiful items crafted in-house and an axe throwing venue inside the Lebanon Valley Mall. Additionally, Drunken Smithy has a Mead Hall offering a variety of meads and ciders produced in-house and live entertainment every weekend.
Job Description
Drunken Smithy is now hiring an experienced carpenter to support our forge, workshop operations, and build outs.
We're seeking a skilled carpenter who can help bring our creative projects to life and support the practical needs of our busy blacksmithing shop. This role involves everything from crafting wooden products like shields and Viking-style chairs, to helping students put wooden scales on their forged knives. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with a mix of hands-on production, teaching support, repairs, and shop maintenance.
Carpentry duties will include organizing the wood workshop, maintaining inventory of materials and tools, and drawing up plans or blueprints for new builds. You’ll take part in ongoing construction and upgrades of our store setups and storefront facades, as well as creating or repairing furniture and fixtures for our store spaces and classroom environments.
In addition to carpentry responsibilities, this position includes working as a blacksmith instructor to help teach our forging workshops. No prior experience in blacksmithing is necessary – our team will teach you how to forge! We're looking for someone eager to learn the craft and excited to share that passion with newcomers. Instructors must be available to work weekends.
Professional carpentry experience is required for this position. (At this time, we are not offering on-the-job carpentry training.) However, forging experience is not required – we will fan the fires in your heart and train you to become the blacksmithing bard you aspire to be! The staff at Drunken Smithy is made up of a fun group of folks with diverse backgrounds and experiences – there is no singular path to finding your way to the forge.
When they’re not busy at the anvil, our blacksmiths also facilitate Drunken Smithy’s recreational axe throwing activities. Our customers love to chat with our staff about the art of metalworking, so you can regale them with your passion and experience from the forge.
