General Placement Service is actively seeking a Commercial Underwriter to join the Property & Casualty insurance space. This is a great opportunity for motivated professionals who are committed to delivering exceptional service and producing quality underwriting results.

Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate, rate, quote, and submit new commercial insurance accounts, including those with complex exposures and multi-layered programs.
- Demonstrate expert-level understanding of both personal and commercial lines, including coverage forms, pricing strategies, and current market conditions.
- Clearly explain coverage options, underwriting rationale, and pricing methodology to internal teams, agents, and brokers.
- Negotiate terms, pricing, and commissions with insurance carriers and agency partners.
- Analyze risk information to determine insurability and pricing, applying sound judgment and investigative techniques.
- Identify and pursue profitable underwriting opportunities that align with company goals and risk appetite.
- Meet or exceed underwriting production targets while maintaining profitability standards.
- Serve as a mentor to junior underwriters and team members by offering coaching, training, and ongoing support.
- Act as a go-to resource for complex underwriting questions from colleagues and agents.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers and agency partners to encourage high-quality submissions and renewals.
- Collaborate across departments to identify cross-sell opportunities and enhance customer service delivery.
- Represent the company at agency meetings, industry events, and other networking opportunities to grow visibility and book of business.
- Oversee the binding process by preparing and submitting bind requests and ensuring all conditions are satisfied.
- Manage the renewal process for assigned accounts and support other team members in maintaining timelines and service standards.
- Ensure adherence to internal underwriting guidelines and maintain compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.
- Provide oversight and guidance on endorsements, inspection reports, and general policy servicing tasks.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment and support other duties as required.
Competencies & Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years of experience in the insurance industry, with a strong background in underwriting preferred.
- Proactive and self-motivated professional who takes initiative to grow knowledge and performance.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with insurance markets, brokers, and agency partners.
- Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach to working across departments.
- Solid understanding of carrier appetites across both brokerage and MGA channels, and the ability to align submissions accordingly.
- Familiarity with underwriting guidelines and the ability to apply them effectively to a wide variety of risk profiles.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on delivering top-tier service.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable with insurance-related software platforms.
