• Must be willing to float to:

  • Rehab
• Charge nurse experience preferred.

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

• TCU: 1:8–10
• 2N/3N/4N: Up to 1:6
• Rehab: 1:3–5

Hiring Requirements

After accepting an offer:

• Written confirmation that the clinician is fully committed and prepared to accept within 24 hours .

  • Titers
  • Background check
  • Drug screen
  • Fingerprinting

Transitional Care Unit (TCU)

Unit Information

• Beds: 32
• EMR: MEDITECH
• Patient Population:
  • Primarily post-operative orthopedic patients (hip/knee replacements)
  • Other stable, non-acute medical patients
  • Post-acute/step-down patients not yet ready for discharge home or to a skilled nursing facility
  • Average length of stay: ~14 days

Common Treatments

• IV antibiotics
• Respiratory care/interventions
• Wound care and dressing changes
• Scheduled rehabilitation therapy

Staffing

Charge Nurse

• May or may not take an assignment depending on census
• One float RN often assists with:
  • Admissions
  • Discharges
  • IVs
  • Other support tasks

Nursing Assistants

• Days/Evenings: 2–3 aides
• Nights: 1–2 aides
• Staffing varies by census

Shift

• Night Shift: 2230–0700

• Nurse interpretation of telemetry strips: No
• Hospitalist coverage: Yes
