Midwest Veterinary Supply is seeking a Distribution Center Manager for our Norristown, PA warehouse.
Job Summary :
The Distribution Center Manager oversees all aspects of operations, including budget management, team development, and achieving operational goals. This role leads and manages a team of managers, providing coaching and mentorship to drive performance. Additional responsibilities include fostering positive employee relations and developing a leadership talent to strengthen the Distribution Center’s management team.
Essential Job Functions :
- Develop and maintain a labor and resource plan to effectively manage workload while meeting customer expectations. Guide, motivate, discipline, interview, hire and hold accountable employees as needed.
- Monitor financial performance of the branch. Use productivity and financial information to set and clarify requirements and expectations for Operations and Area Managers. Measures performance, provides feedback, and holds Operations Managers accountable for their performance and the performance of their areas.
- Responsible for the overall safety, quality, compliance and customer experience of the Distribution Center.
- Leverages the Operations and Area Managers by sourcing and nurturing ideas, and rolling them into the creation of improvement plans for the functional area.
- Communicate with Inside and Outside Sales Representatives regarding inventory and shipping issues.
- Work with Human Resources department on employee matters to include payroll/timekeeping, hiring, disciplinary action, and employee benefits.
Job Requirements & Qualifications :
- Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required
- Specialized warehouse management training of at least two years is preferred
- Minimum of three years of experience within a shipping and receiving environment required
- Minimum of three years of experience within the veterinary industry is preferred
- Experience within the Human Resources field is desirable
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Forklift certified or ability to become forklift certified required
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals
- Basic computer skills, ability to operate a Windows-based computer and data entry
- Ability to differentiate details related to product codes and descriptions (such as verifying a string of numbers)
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentages.
- Ability to work well with others and independently
- Ability to make quick decisions based on sound business logic
- Ability to manage, delegate to, and lead employees to ensure ultimate performance levels
- Ability to work with Corporate office to achieve mutual goals
- Ability to remain flexible and open minded
- Superior listening and verbal communication skills to include the ability to demonstrate diplomacy and professionalism
- Strong organizational skills
Mental & Physical Demands :
- Attention to detail critical to ensure accuracy and completion of objectives
- Regular interaction with people, team-player
- Fast pace of work which requires multi-tasking and ability to work under pressure
- Vision: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Repetitive motion: reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, carrying
- Regularly lift/move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 70 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders/stairs, balance, stand/walk on concrete floor for extended periods
- Bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching
- Ability to work long hours as needs arise
- Frequent use of a telephone – listening and speaking
- Ability to work at a desk throughout the day
- Frequent use of hands for writing and computer keyboard

Equipment Used :
Windows based computer, tape gun, safety knife, 2-way radio, safety equipment, markers, label equipment, packaging materials, ladders, box cutter, forklift, pallet jack, safety inspected vehicle, hand cart
Work Environment :
Work will be performed indoors in a relatively temperature controlled climate where moderate heat, cold or humidity may be experienced. Moderate exposure to dust and dirt may also be expected. Some travel is involved with participation in state veterinary conventions, the annual sales meeting, and quarterly regional meetings. May require handling of products with cautious warning labels. This is a safety sensitive position.
