Workshop Facilitator for High School Program
Job Description
Job Description
About the Program:
Lanzando Lderes is an after-school program for adolescents grades 9-12 in the South Philadelphia Latinx immigrant community. LL takes place in-person at Puentes de Salud in South Philadelphia one afternoon per week (Thursdays). This program was developed and piloted in 2017 and officially incorporated into Puentes de Saluds education programming in the fall of 2018. In July 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the program lost funding/staffing and remained active in a limited state. The fall of 2022 was its year of return to in-person programming which allowed for it to benefit from 1:1 tutoring/mentorship. Now, Lanzando Lderes strives to be a space where Latine youth can receive academic and post-secondary support, while also learning meaningful leadership and day-to-day skills in an environment that is culturally-responsive and celebrates their multilingualism and multiculturalism.
Lanzando Lderes invites Spanishspeaking educators dedicated to creating comfortable bilingual learning spaces that are accessible to our high school students. Youll support the Adolescent Education Supervisor both before and during the programming, helping craft and deliver engaging workshops for Latine high school youth focused on socioemotional lifeskills, health and wellness, social justice, and college access. You will receive all necessary support from the Adolescent Education Supervisor to co-develop logistics and materials. Some teaching/facilitating experience is required! Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Development
- Meet with the Adolescent Supervisor for weekly supervision and curriculum planning and development.
- Support curriculum preparation by creating relevant educational resources, materials, and lesson plans to ensure effective program delivery
- Contribute creative ideas and suggestions for program enhancement based on your observations and interactions with high school students
- Assist with administering and analyzing pre/post student surveys to assess growth.
- Translate materials into Spanish as necessary.
- Arrive early to help prepare space and materials for programming.
- Facilitate LL programming on Thursdays from 3:30-5:30pm using restorative classroommanagement strategies. This will include:
- Lead minicollege access workshops and offer 1:1 support to upperclass students during tutoring time.
- Lead 1hour bilingual workshop (~15 students) on select topics for the week.
- Collaborate in adapting curriculum based on student needs.
- Support with student supervision during arrival to program, snack, group transitions, program activities, and dismissal.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English (native or heritage speakers especially encouraged!)
- Young professional
- Passion for working with high school youth
- Experience in education, community work, or youth leadership, preferred but not required
- Experience working with immigrant or Latine communities preferred, but not required
Flexible work from home options available.
